filled the oil up, believe i put to much in.
bike started acting abit sluggish and had trouble reaching high revs smoothly. it also chucked out a fair wack of smoke.

is this a cause of too much oil ? and how do i drain it.?

thanks, leigh.

Take the drain plug out....... Thumbs Up

Too much oil is as bad as too little.

Make sure when you fill up the bike is on level ground.

If in doub't empty it all out and put the correct amount in (its usually written on the side by the filler hole)

It should be at the lowest point in the engine, another method without using the sump plug is to siphon it out via the fill hole which some people use for seized sump plugs. Its not as good as the crud in the bottom of the engine stays in the engine till it gets caught by the filter.

Undoing the sump plug is easy , be wary about overtightening it though however putting it back in while it is gushing oil out is difficult.

If you do use the sump plug , lean the bike over to one side and you can moderate the outward flow and not lose all the oil in the process.

Or you can of course just drain all the oil out do up the sump plug and put the oil back in (minus the excess amount you put in).

Pass I don't know how much oil goes into the gear box, you'll have to ask a dealer or look in your manual , it being 2 stroke confuses it due to 2 stroke oil tank and gear box oil tank.

my fill up point is next to my battery, just under the fuel tank right next to the top of the forks.
but theres another one right in the top of the gearbox :S
is the one up by the battery oil for something else? or does it run down.

im slightly confused.

Hi

Your bike will have gearbox oil (which it shouldn't use, and which you need the right amount of) and engine oil (which goes in a seperate oil tank and which is used, and as long as it isn't run out or overflowing you don't need to worry too much about the quantity).

They are also almost certainly 2 different kinds of oil.

All the best

Keith

ok thanks.
i havent put anything into the gearbox, i put oil into a cap that say oil, next to my water fill up. i put nearly a whole 600ml bottle in.
does this sound to much?

i was just worried because the bike was playing up when i started it shortly after putting the oil in.

thanks, leigh.

Hi

Nope. Often it will take over a litre from empty. It is just a reservior, and the quantity in it (as long as there is some) should make no difference to the running of the bike, just like the quantity of petrol in the petrol tank should make no real difference to how the bike runs.

What oil did you fill it with?

All the best

Keith

Hi

It should be 2 stroke oil. That you say "grade" makes me think you have put normal 4 stroke engine oil in there (10W40 or the like), and if so then don't run it, drain the 2 stroke oil system fully and put in fresh oil (and bleed the pump).

All the best

Keith

nah i put 2 stroke in it.
i only just got the bike, i had a 4 stroke before hand.
i know that 4 stroke oil is like 40W20 and all that stuff.
a presumed 2 stroke oil has grades like that, and thought thats what you ment.

if that all makes sence?

so i put 2 stroke oil in it, not a huge amount.
i cant see whats caused this problem.

leigh.

Without trying to make you sound like a fool, the location of where you put the oil does sound like a likely place for the coolant resevoir, you haven't filled that with oil have you?

All the best, Joe
