On my ER6, I have fitted engine bars.crash.

However I am concerned with going for a full lean, where the pegs would normally go down. I am concerned with the consequences of the bars touching the road.

Does anyone know the outcome?

Because as I look at the bike , I think the bars will go down before the pegs. (Is it going to flip me?, or just grind?)

(Prior to the ER6, I had an ER5, but that had R&Gs, so not a problem, the same with my Z750 )

I don't really want to take them off, because I think they could save the bike in a slide.

Should just grind on the road surface if they do only problem would be if they catch or dig in on a poor surface, some BMW R series riders have been known to grind there rocker covers on the road.

I'm sure the pegs will touch before the bars. However, I think you should find out & post up the results. Thumbs Up

I would be very surprised if engine bars would hit the ground through normal usage.....

You have fitted them the right way Laughing

Would be a nasty shock, as unlike foot pegs they will not rise up and give. More likely to pivot the bike and spit you off.

You could always stick sliders on them with a ski sort of profile so that they can't / won't dig in to the ground a few plastic milk bottles cut up should make a decent enough and cheap to wear shape I suppose, I very nearly got the crash bars down on the Africa but then I realised I fit them wrong and they drooped down a fair bit.

Yeah they are fitted correctly, but they do appear lower than the pegs. But then I am not sited on the bike.

I do like to lean though, I was always scrapping my pegs and toe sliders on my other bike.

Similarly, I've occasionally got racing-rearsets down on track (solid) and haven't had a problem. Engine bars are less likely to dig-in too, but I wouldn't make a habit of it on the road, however should be fine touching down gently if you're going just that bit faster than the last time you took the corner.

I used to have engine bars on my Bandit, grinded them along fine, as someone said potholes would not be fun..

Remember though pegs will lift the back wheel up first . . No biggie. But engine bars if they touch down will take the weight off the front wheel.

That actually reminds me of a comic I saw years ago where motorbikes had 3 wheels , two in the normal place and a large one supported by an A frame which the rider sits in between , sort of like a E-3 Hawkeye or other Awacs aircraft.

Such that if you lean right to the limit and beyond the wheel above your head will touch the tarmac first preventing you from falling off.

I was out on a ride with some of the guys off xrv.org.uk and we where going over hart side pass (best road ever) and experienced an Africa twin get its sump guard down... needless to say the rider is slightly mad Laughing

I think you will be fine, the first time it will scare shit out of you I bet.

Then again following my Dad when he is on his Transalp and watching his metal mule panniers look centimeters from touching out is quite scary. Although do seem to keep tucking under Thinking
