Im not really sure but i think my NSR has developed a new sound i have never really thought about it but recently its being getting on my tits.

When its just ticking over there is a very noticeable thudding sound much louder, i cant really hear it when the power is on.

I was wondering if the the big end bearing may have gone. I was once told it sounded like someone taking a lump hammer to your engine case, although i don't think it really sounds like that.

The tick over isn't that great either, sounds like its going 2 stall any second.

Any ideas.

Are you sure because, it wasnt really cold yesterday and i had just been riding it, And its had all the oil ect changed recently.

Also it starting leaking petrol from a pipe at the bottom, i belive it was syfening it from the tank as a lot was comming out untill i moved the bike and its stopped.

Odd?

A bit of petrol can go into the overflow pipe when you're filling it up, and if the hose has a bend or crap in it the fuel will dribble out some time later. If it only happens once or twice don't worry about it.

Fuel overflow can also be due to the carb float sticking down, and would possibly cause your idle problem as it messes up the fuel/air mixture. Normally this is a continuous problem though, with fuel piddling out of the carb overflow. Moving the bike can shake it free and let the needle seat again. Fairly rare kind of thing.

As for noises, they're very hard to describe. If the piston is worn and slapping you hear it as a fast tapping noise when the engine is idling.
If the big end is gone it's supposed to sound pretty loud like a knock and gets worse very quickly.
If a main bearing goes it's more of a rumble, and you'll feel the vibrations through the frame. The engine can run for quite a while like that before the bearing collapses and things get expensive.
On the bright side, every NSR i've ever heard has some grumble from the engine, the older they get the louder it gets

hello, this happend to my nsr! sounded horrid, i left it for a while until it siezed on me as the oil wasn't flowing around, the problem was the primary gear nut had come off, which moved the gear which drives the oil pump, would be a idea if you check it,
