Should i be worried about this?

A dealer has just dropped the oil on my ape,or atleast that is what he told me,but i dont trust him due to another recent situation so i`ve just checked the bike this morning.

Looked into the sight glass near the fairing and there was no oil in view.Started the bike up and idled it upto temperature for 10 minutes to warm the oil but i still cant see anything in the glass.
There are no warning lights on the dash either so icant figure out whats happening.
If the oil has just been changed by a dealer shouldn`t it be at the right level in the sight glass (i.e between the min/max level?)

There`s nothing there at all, the glass is totally empty.

I`ve got a photo but this site wont take it and i cant resize it.

How is the bike positioned when you look at the oil sight glass? , in that if the oil sight glass is on the right and the side stand is on the left then it will lean the bike over and the oil level will show as non existant.

Same with centre stands as the CBR600F's centre stand tilts the bike forward meaning the oil sight glass looks empty.

Hold it straight and level (carefully else you may have bike falling on you) and then look at the oil sight glass, also if you have one look at the oil dipstick. It should be clear oil if he changed it black if he didn't.

Get someone to lean the bike over on its LHS, it may just be that they have filled the bike up with too much oil and it is easy to think that there is none in there when in actual fact, there is too much. New oil can be quite transparent when viewed through the sight glass.

Well it won't do any harm to add a bit.
The thing is that bikes total oil volume is quite small and a good percentage is in the pump and oilways rather than sat in the sump.
If the oil warning light is not on or flickering it will be OK I expect.

Too high level is not a good thing some have been known to top up until it's level with filler! (you do that with some things but not bike engines).

warm the engine for a few mins to get the oil more runny then let it cool for a few mins so the oil runs back down to the sight glass, then check the level with the bike on paddock stand or whatever

Hasn't your bike got a dry sump? The oil sight 'pipe' is on the left side too isn't it? The only way to properly check the oil on that bike is to run it up for 20 minutes or so until warm then hold it upright and check the level indicator. When I change the oil on a dry sump Aprilia I usually stick in 3 litres or so minimum and then start it up. Should end up taking around 4 litres. Just make sure you get it warmed up properly before checking. Thumbs Up
