 |
|
Rotherhams new bike test center had five tests today. four of those candidates failed with two of the four crashing and one of the those ending up in hospital.
A few instructors were saying that the high speed avoidance manoeuver was dangerous in the wet.
Best of luck to all those yet to take the new test just hope it not raining for you. ____________________ And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

Looking at the diagram, if a person (me) had to do it without stopping I'd just forget where I was in the process. My memory might be shit but my riding isn't to bad, (which is to say; I'm still alive after 3 years...)
Who's done a test in the wet? Or will they start cancelling tests if it's damp as they won't be able to administer that part effectively.
Like the car test, its not the best method. 40 odd minutes under test circumstances focusing on doing things by rote. An extended test (not unlike the CBT) would be far more useful, (would be my view...)

But a lot of the time the roads we ride on are wet.......
So in reality doing this in the wet is the best test yet, for bike control....
It is pointless people passing the test, because its too easy. Only then to become a statistic when something happens, due to the fact they are unable to control their bike in the wet....
Perhaps if ALL instructors were saying something, it might be looked at.
Maybe they should have a go and see how they find it, before passing comment.
The only issue would be if the tarmac is not upto the same grip quality as the roads, or is so new its still seeping oil in the wet.... |
I did my test in the snow. I came off in the snow 2 years later. The test doesn't mean you are a fully fledged biker, it's only there to give you a head start on learning how to ride.
I was speaking to an instructor about this some time ago, and he said it's going to be impossible to teach people that part of the test. I'm sure when more accidents start happening it will get scrapped.
'High speed avoidance' is more down to luck than skill, that's why the test is there to teach you about obs. I've had a few 'nearlys' due to poor obs (we all do sometimes), and I can honestly say that if you asked me to replicate the maneuvers I have done, I wouldn't be able to. Split second decisions are just that, instinct takes over. ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

Surely these kind of manoeuvres come with experience? Because a new rider has probably just got used to riding properly let alone doing more difficult things. ____________________ Bikes : 2006 CBR125R - 2004 Monster 620ie - 2004 ZX-6R B1H - 2005 Monster S2R 800 - 2011 Street Triple - 2009 Streetfighter 1098 - 2014 ZX-6R 636

I was just gonna say the same Keith. If it's wet then surely is should be a not-so-high-speed avoidance maneuver. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'
