Has anyone actually put a magnet on the bottom of your bike, so that a traffic light will change or give you a green left arrow?

I have ordered a 4"x1"x1/2" thick Neodymium magnet, and I am going to try this. When I get the magnet by ups on May 5, 2009 I will give you REAL LIFE updates if it actually works or not.
(P.S. It is 5,210 gauss, and a pulling force of 312.45 Lbs)

Will update you, I promise, please wait.

I wouldn't have thought it was necessary unless your bike was made of wood or something. Those induction loops are quite sensitive. I've never had a problem with them.

I've found with the piercings in my cock if I just let it hang down my left leg in my boot I never have any problems Thumbs Up

For you though, you may want to consider a steel plate in your heel Wink

Not everyone is blessed like me Very Happy

312lbs of pulling force....... and you're going to try and stick it to the bottom of a bike that weighs 200kg? that could go over a metal bridge... or a big man hole cover... expect it to rip your fairing off or throw you off.

There is a set of lights on one of my regular routes that if I don't sit about 4 meters back from the white lne will not pick up my bike and then never go green. (sat there for three full cycles the first time)

I read somewhere that if you push you starter button it will trigger the thing but I am worried about breaking the starter motor, not sure it will work and already have a way to make it work- sit 4 meters back.

I've been caught out by induction loops a few times while out on my bike. Once on an industrial estate I sat there for 5-10mins while I tried everthing to trigger the damm thing. I walked the bike back so I was sat over the loop, I rocked it back and forth. Then I tried riding over it more quickly. I tried rev'ing (I don't know why) then in the end I just rode through the lights on red.

Be interesting to know if these things work.

I just ride to the edge of the sensor if there are no other cars about.

Having a heavier bike definitely helps. I know a couple of sensors in my area that weren't strong enough to be triggered by my old bike (GPZ 500) but my current hack is a fair bit heavier and seems to set them off alright.

There is a set from a minor to major road leaving the ex's and there a right nightmare.
Have tried everything I know to set them off - last time I had to go through a red - was 2am and no traffic but I was stuck there for 5-10 mins Thumbs Down

It's just like a roughly shaped long rectangle which goes across the lane. The sensor is biased toward the edges because most of the vehicles travelling through have four or more wheels, so sometimes just riding to the side a little when you go over one can be enough to set one off. That and the fact bikes are much lighter than cars are why you sometimes get caught waiting if there's no other cars around to set them off for you.

Some road works and temporary lights have a light sensor on top of the traffic light itself which seem to change sooner if you have your main beam on.

Only some 1p and 2p coins are magnetic.

For gods sake dont order two!

https://www.magnetnerd.com/Neodymium%20Magnets/photo%20magnets%20wth%20nail%20+%20measurements%201024-768.jpg

What your looking at it a fingernail and the tip of some blokes finger sandwiched between two neodmium magnets after he turned one round on the desk, lined up the polarity and cause one of them to fly 20 inches through the air!

Full details here

My question is.... how the hell do you post one of these things?

Holy Christ on a bike! Shocked Sick

He explains how they are sent in the post, a huge box with the magnet packed in the centre.

Over a sunny summer weekend, you'd probably pick up enough parts for an entire Harley...

Be careful with those mags as they are really fragile, any large impact and they shatter into millions of pieces that will nicely pierce your tyre!

Perhaps keep it enclosed in a small box or something so when it does shatter at least it will contained!

The NSR125 I had was crap for making the lights change. Used to just go through red lights when it was safe to do so. Confused

Either go through on red, or if you know it's a fucker what i do is just use abit of front brake going over the pads, works nicely, but if it's quiet, fuck it and just go, why should i wait because a stupid red fucking light bulb tells me to? if it's quiet i'm going Rolling Eyes

Surely it keeps itself together 'cause it's a magnet?
