Front brake light switch (NSR)

My front brake switch has started being dodgy, when i pull the brake it will trigger the lights but then they go out as you pull the lever in closer.

Its like it only works at a specific point

so is a front switch easy to repair/replace and is there anything i should be aware of before i attempt it?

A repair isn't worth it, bottom line is the switch is knackered and you will be better off replacing it, they are quite cheap and you don't have to panic about genuine parts on this.

I've just replaced one recently myself, easy to fit but to get the old one off you will need a decent Phillips screwdriver and some WD40 because that little bolt will be a bugger to remove and you could damage the head.

Been using the stuff for years, never had a problem with it. Infact used in on a brake light switch on monday.
If you are worried about it "melting" plastic, use a dedicated contact cleaner/lube.

If they fail, a new switch it is!

WD40 has a reputation on this forum as being a Magical "cure all" for every problem. It's not, as a water displacer it's fairly good but as a contact cleaner or a penetrating fluid it's crap and there are plenty of other products on the market that are miles better and won't rot plastic or rubber. The brake light switch is a micro switch and once on it's way out needs replacing. As above, make sure you use the right screwdriver as the screw will round off quite easily. If you need a penetrating fluid, use Plus Gas.
