DON'T forget the disclock....DON'T forget the disclock...DON'T forg......oops..forgot the disclock....

Can't believe I did it *again*. Second time now, but this time I managed to snap the caliper arm at the back and the end of the speedo cable. Going to try and see if I can find just the bit that broke, but I suspect I'm going to have to buy a whole new caliper.
Someone, please, just... just shoot me... ____________________ A Guide To Powerbands |

Thought my luck was in..rang the local Suzi dealer to see how much a new err...'bit' (still don't know the actual name of it) would cost...jaw hit the floor when he told me that they're £60. £60 for a piece of cast ally..??
But, then he said there was someone in the shop who happened to have calipers that would fit and wanted £50.00. Great! I thought. So went and got them, just got back and surprise surprise...it doesn't fit. I can't even use the whole caliper assembly as the fork boltholes are totally different.
That said, he does have the rest of the bike (GSXR 750) for sale for £100. It's pretty tatty, but the forks are adjustable (and I assume much better than standard Bandit ones..?) so I could get that, rob the forks off it and use the calipers.
But that'll take time, and I'm already gutted that I won't be able to use it for at least a few days next week.
If anyone has a set of Bandit calipers, or even just that bit, please let me know!

Put it over your ignition key when you put your disc lock on, then you can't forget. When it's not over your ignition key, put it over your disc lock key so it doesn't scratch your top yoke. |
That is a really good idea. Think I might try that! ____________________ A Guide To Powerbands |

you do realise it would be so easy to ally weld that back up? they would probably charge you a 5er, then you could file it all down and not be able to tell the difference. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. It is possible to weld cast ally, but I don't think I would on a brake part |

I once managed to snap a disk lock in 2 on my RS50 when I forgot it was on. I don't have these problems on the 500... it has drum brakes front and back ____________________ Current: Suzuki RG 125 Gamma, Honda H100, Triumph Tiger 800XC, Suzuki SV650 (minitwin) |

Of course it's "load bearing", it's attached to the caliper stops it fulying off at warp speed when you apply the brakes! |
I mean the stress of that particular part (and I'm not 100% sure of this, I should add) is that the stress isn't where the breakage is. It only broke there because it's not designed to have a disclock hit it.
I had a good look when I took it off tonight, and it looks like the pressure of braking would have the effect of actually pushing the two pieces together, rather than apart. All a weld would need to do is to make sure it didn't move.
Ohh, I don't know. I'm already having second thoughts about welding it now (thanks, BanditsHigh ........ ) so I might not bother now anyway. Just use the car (shudder) until I get a decent replacement part. ____________________ A Guide To Powerbands |

if its ally welded, it will be near enough the same strength as the original material.
the material used is always well in excess of what is required anyway. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. ideal. now file it down so it doesnt look like a slug. as long as the penitration is ok, it wont compromise the strength. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles.
