Improvement is it'll be 2ft shorter than standard, 1ft cut off the chassis and the pickup tub takes up another foot. Bobtailing it and making a tray back to put on.
Improvement should be obvious, it'll be able to get to more places and so able to tow out more stuck range rovers.
And my plate? That's easy. |

Can just cut the standard tub but it's shorter without the tub.
I do have vague plans for a roll cage but I don't think that'll happen for a few years.
Yeah they're able to pull land/range rovers with no problems. Pull them out, and then drive straight through whatever they'd got stuck in. |

So lets get this right....
You've taken off the tub and cut two foot out of the chassis which considering how high up it is isn't really going to affect your departure angle much at all. In fact it probably won't affect anything except lose a bit of weight as the rear axle is still in the same place.
As to the Range Rover pictures it's a bit of an unfair comparison really. That Range Rover looks pretty much standard except for running Discovery steel wheels with 205R16 Satanik tyres and the driver hasn't even thought hmm, I'll be running low pressures, maybe I should fit some inner tubes.
Compare that to your L200 which has some rather expensive mud tyres on it, snorkel for wading which the old Rangie doesn't have and possibly a shackle lift kit as well and it's hardly surprising that yours is better of road. Wonder what the price difference is between an old Rangie and a 3 year old L200?
How about compare like with like except you can't easily do that as your L200 has leaf springs not coils so lets say a LWB defender or whatever they call them now that does have coils will always be at an advantage assuming the same tyres are used. |

Cut 1ft off the chassis, the end of the tub is 1ft further back than that so by taking the tub off it losses 2ft in total. It will affect the departure angle, as when offroading the rear bumper was scrapping frequently.
As said, in those range rover pics my L200 is completely standard, it didn't have the snorkel, MT tyres, or any of the other bits and pieces. It was later than I starting changing parts on it. Price different, yes, quite a bit.
Compare like with like, hmmmm. Unless comparing with challenge vehicles, then the L200 is very capable off road. You have land rovers (I think, might be wrong lol), come along offroading sometime after February next year when I've got my license back. |
