Find me a solution to my problem here,

I had to change the tube on the XT600E , which meant I had to tip it on its side and struggle to remove the rear wheel as you need to undo things on both sides. I did this on the motorway at 3am a markedly unpleasant experience. Took me an hour as I couldn't see jack.

A centre stand is £££££ heavy and also means very little ground clearance the centre stand for sale from metal mule is also rated at just the bike's weight and there are horror stories of them bending with luggage on the bike.

Tipping it over is the cheap but uneasy option in that tipping it over spills petrol and you have to remove either the brake lever or the gear shifter else they bend into the engine.

What solutions do you have that ful fil the following criteria:

Not expensive
Weigh less than 2.5 kilos
Will fit into the space of half a show box..

I've had limited sucess with car jacks.

What are you solutions BCF?

EDIT

I am not strong enough to let the bike rest on its swing arm and to lift it up and slot the wheel in either.

There's a rod thing sold by the likes of M&P/Busters/MPS that is used with the sidestand and swingarm. Looks the same as me using an axlestand under the footrest hanger plus sidestand on my DR (and AT sometimes) when I want to remove one of the wheels or oil the chain.

For the older LC4 KTMs, I've seen some with bash-plates that double as a centre-stand. Seems an ideal solution as the weight/strength is in something already required.

Otherwise, surely some kind of mini-axle stand to lift the right hand side of the bike up? Think you had a hard-top box - if so, could you use that somehow to lift the bike up a bit, maybe with something else on top?

Nope top box is coming off , I came back to reconfigure the bike as it was too much of a wind magnet for buffetting , soft side paniers are staying though.

Get a rack for the back...

Buy a cheap paddock stand, cut into sections, drill said sections, buy bolts for said ' said ' sections...

Keep two spanners along with modified paddock stand and bolts in a bag attached to rack that's now mounted on the bike...

Re-assemble paddock stand as and when needed...

I'm thinking aloud so Meh if you don't like it...

... Thumbs Up

1) Ratchet strap
2) Tree*

*I advise finding a tree near your next breakdown point rather than carrying one.

Two bits of box section, one that fits inside the other. Weld a U-shaped gutter on the top of one that slots neatly onto the swingarm.

Slide one inside the other then extend them until they are the correct length so you can push the bike over towards the sidestand far enough to just lift the rear wheel off the ground and slip the bits of box section under the swingarm. Now mark and drill a hole that passes through both bits of box section at this point and put a bolt through them.

You now have a collapsable rear wheel prop-stand that will fit under the saddle.

If you make it extend to a different length by means of another hole for the bolt, it is entirely possible to use it in the same way under the front part of the frame to remove the front wheel too.

A mate of mine toured Australia on a KLR650 and changed tyres using this exact technique.

EDIT: For extra space-saving, you can fit about three spanners inside the collapsed bits of box section.

Make one, it's only a piece of tube. My mate made one for his DR440 that actually bolted to his swing arm. I never looked too closely cos he wouldn't shut up about how wonderful it was and I didn't want to start him off again.

Whey ! I found a very simple solution to this....

A hammer with rubber coated handle... just had a go wedging one under the swing arm and also wedging it under the bash plate and it works.

Completely conveniently it is nice to hammer in my separate sharpened tube pegs for my tent and also to (gently) tap out my rear spindle .....actually that makes no sense at all in that if I use a hammer under the swing arm then I can't be using it to tap out the smegging spindle can I Doh!

Will probably get a slightly lighter hammer at a local store to save some weight on this.

Although it does weigh more than I would like but can't have everything.
