Hello,

I bought some helicoil style thread repair kits off of ebay for my RD350. The exhaust stud holes in the barrels were stripped, so I helicoiled the only one that wasn't already done.

Slight issue though, when I screw in the stud (or bolt) into the freshly repaired thread, it strips the thread from the bolt!

I'm certain the pitch and diameter are correct (M8 x 1.0mm) so I'm guessing something went awry with my fitting of the thread repair thing. Anyone know if they are easy to remove and start again? At the moment the bolt I've put in holds so its not a total disaster, but its not quite as good as I had hoped.

Any thoughts?

It's M8x1.25 thread. I sell loads of the studs and brass nuts and they are pretty much always this thread pitch when going into Aluminium. Did you not check the tap in the kit against a stud?

Maybe I need a 1.25mm pitch stud then. As I said I'm not using a stud at the moment because I stripped the last one I had. I'll check the kit but I'm fairly sure it was the correct pitch and stuff. Maybe I'm wrong about it being M8 x 1.0mm. The bolt I used is definately M8 x 1.0mm. If it is 1.25mm that could explain why it is being stripped!
