Biker?

Does having a bike automatically make you a Biker?
Does selling up and not having a bike mean you can no longer call yourself a Biker?
Just wondering as another person sells up and moves to cars. When do you actually if at all stop/start being a Biker?

Personally, i've had my car licence longer than my bike licence, so it's not like i'm 'moving to cars', i've always had, and probably always will own a car, but:

Having a bike makes you someone who owns a bike IMHO.
Likewise, not owning a bike makes you someone who doesn't own a bike.

If you have a license, and have spent a considerable time riding bikes, that makes you a biker. IMHO.

IMO the phrase 'biker' still has many negative impressions.
The jump is to smelly sweaty leather clad neanderthals with or without patches.

Either that or to matching bike and leather one-piece power ranger suited speed jockeys who just want to make progress, that's cut-up, whatever's in their way.

I'm just a guy who owns and rides a motorcycle (well, TBH more than one but it's hard to ride more than one, obviously )
So I'm a motorcyclist.

Apparently I'm not a "PROPER" biker because i once drove my car into town when it was raining.What the clever b4stard didn't realise was i was actually going to the bike shop to buy parts otherwise i would have been on it regardless of weather.But then how does wearing a Yamaha jacket make me a biker,and how does driving a car when i need to make me less of one?

If you own a bike you're considered a 'biker' by all those who've never owned a bike.

If you own a bike then a 'biker' is a dirty, leather trouser, denim waistcoat wearing old fart with a scruffy beard who has a propensity for thinking that sitting in a tent in the pissing rain listening to Motorhead covers sung by a bloke who looks exactly like him is the most glamorous way to spend a weekend in the whole wide world... EVER.

Depends. Once you own a bike you will always have affection for all things two wheels. It's that way in my cae anyhow. I still load up biketrader at least once a week and think "what if". Just so happens owning a bike hasn't been practical at uni. I hope to own a bike again within 6 months, even if it just a hack to get about on.

I'd say anyone who is anyone who has owned a bike will always have fond memories of them and thus is more of a biker than someone who hasn't even owned one.

Though to be honest, does it really matter? It doesn't bother me one jot what someone wants to pigeonhole me into, therefore...

Actually I have said this before, if you're over 40 then you're a motorcycle enthusiast...trust me.

To be a biker you need the following:

1) A beard
2) A Tattoo/s
3) Long hair but going bald on top
4) Carried out your own repairs/alterations on your bike
5) Owned a sports bike or a chopper of some description
6) Been on a ride out or to a weekend meet

and

7) Look as if you might have poor hygiene (but very probably don't.)

To be a biker, you need to be able to tick all those boxes. To be an enthusiast you only need to tick 4, 5, 6 and 7. If you can only tick 4 and 5 your bike is just a mode of transport. 4 you do because you're tight or skint, 5 you did by accident . If you can also tick 7, go and have a wash treg!
