I am planning on re building my website. Small business and gets busy in the summer. Mostly information with a page for a shop with add to cart buttons etc all done through paypal. Now it was made in Frontpage with frames so it's pretty crappy.
I am looking for some radical ideas to integrate into the website.
I am starting from scratch. Using Dreamweaver 8 and maybe expression studio 2. I can't code fluently but I can modify stuff by using common sense in the code.
So far the plan is to have a simple info site with a link to my online shop which will be php driven using a template like cubecart or similar. I hate oscommerce.
Anyone got any cool ideas for the website? Doesn't need to be product orientated. Maybe a menu you saw or any really good ideas you have seen before.
I will you so much you might actually die.
Cheers |

What about a starting page with a nice picture to do with the product that the person then clicks on a link to enter the page? Always makes the company look more proffesional if done right imo. ____________________ ***Previous: GPR50, FZ750 *** Current: Monkey bike, yella SV 650 ***

Right, let's see what you meant - splash pages are indeed WAY COOL if you're 12 and it's 1996, but since neither of those are true, I'll just hope you meant a catalogue of images arranged and you click on one for more info...
Matthie, go get us an example of this idea of yours so we can either slate you or eat humblefudge. |

When designing sites I will quite often browse though site like this
https://www.freecsstemplates.org/css-templates/ to come up with Ideas for menus and bits of layout. I then code something similar to get the look I'm after.
If you are not very good at coding css you could just use the parts you like as you can down load the complete css and index page.

If you can't present enough information to potential new customers to get them to click that next link within 9 seconds of arriving at your page, chances are you've lost them.
That includes page loading time.
Try not to make life difficult for them with splash pages, flash animations, bad colour choices, confusing menus and an eye-crippling layout or they'll hit the back button before the page has loaded.
This one's brilliant:

That site made me feel physically sick. That hasn't happened in a while!
One suggestion I'd make is plan it out on paper first.

I hope to god you are joking
That is total over kill and me reaching for the close window box in less that 5 secs....
Information overload....
Forget splash pages, its just a waste of effort. The only people who seem to like them are the people who design them, everyone else is looking for the skip button.
Try to stay away from animated logo's or adds on the page. Movement attracts the eye's and this is diverting your customers away from the info they should be looking at. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |
