hi,

went out yesterday on a massive ride 330 mile.

Went up the a47 which is pretty much a straight road nothing that has major twistys on. Now my back tyre has squared off slightly and im slighly pissed off!!!

Will this be sorted out when i next go out on the twistys?

Depends on the tyre and such, if its squared off in that amount of miles then maybe your over inflating your tyre? Tyre wear is a normal process and the only way to reduce it is to keep ontop of your tyre pressures and look after your suspension and take it easy on your acceleration.

Something like that shouldn't square your tyre off, like lonewolf said it could be over inflated... or it is in your head because you think you have done a bit straight line riding. Laughing

Do you realise that is you took a straight line route, its only 14 more mile than you did to get from london to glasgow....

So no way is your 330 mile trip going to be anything like a lot of straight lines. It will be more like any other trip we all take, with a mixture of straight and curves.

Would help if you gave info on bike and tyre type and then add in what pressure you are running at.

I would guess even a race slick, would stand 330 mile without squaring off on the roads.

Perhaps it's when you look at the tyre, you now have larger unused bits at the side, that you did before. Thus giving a perception of it squaring off.

On the road tyres square in the middle, I can't see how anyone can NOT square off a tyre on the road.

Your best bet is to either accept it as a part of biking life or get a dual compound tyre to try and minimise the effect*! Thumbs Up

*it'll still happen though!! Sad

On my 125 I used to do it, and I think one of my sets on the hornet has(out of 3)... purely from commuting 25 miles (round trip) a day on them on an A road... this last set of tyres haven't squared off, but that could be because I don't commute on it any more so generally take the more fun twisty roads...

Not matter what you think you will always be riding in the center of the tyre most of the time.

When my Dad did his longest day trip (John o' Groats to Lands End in under 24 hours) his bike tyre on his bike was squared off to fook, I had never seen such a square tyre, it could have come off a side car thing.
