My NSR is screwed but nots sure if its a write off. The insurance company won't give me a hire bike because I'm uninsureable apparently (only been riding 3 months Confused ). So would it be better to just go and buy a new bike and pray the money comes through from my old one or spend ludicrous amounts of money on a hire bike? The hassle of insurance is a really good way to make people ride more carefully.

Im asking the combined knowledge of BCF cos I dunno what to do.
Confused

If you know that you are going to get money from your damaged bike from the insurance company anyway (are you definate about tht?) then why not just go out and find a new bike and use that? That way you'll get the money back when the insurance pays out?

You'd be throwing money away from your insurance payout if you were just hiring a bike for days or weeks at a time?

Just my opinion. Wink

It was most definately not my fault so I guess that means claiming from there insurance I think. Im well worried the claim inspectors will pick up onsomething on my bike and void the claim. I dunno what but something like the restrictor being out of the exhaust. Im such a newbie to this sort of stuff. Can I claim the money back on all the taxis, buses, trains, tubes I've gone on since the accident? I kept the reciepts for them all.

Unless you can afford a new bike without the payment, wait until you know for sure that you will get paid and how much.

Doubt they'd notice the restrictor missing from the exhaust, most inspectors probably wouldn't know how an nsr is restricted.

My friend had his ped knocked over when it was parked. Whilst the insurance company were sorting it out (they took a while), he used public transport, kept the reciepts and claimed all the money back at the end, including the payout for the value of the ped as well.

Id do the same/similar...

Why cant they give you a courtesy bike? if it said they would in the contract you made with they, they HAVE to. 3 month business ??? whats that all about?

Dont take any shit from them...

Doubtfull he'd get a hire bike because of age and not having a full licence. Even if its in the insurance contract there will probably be a clause about age or something like that.

if it was definitely the other persons fault then you should ba able to claim for your bike, expenses when with out a bike and compensation all off there insurance but might have to go though seperate claims mine did... a car pulled out on me mine wasn't insured as de-restricted and they didn't notice... but it might be down to luck or if it a big claim not sure....
hope thats helps

I do have a full license and am 19, there just being bitches I think.

Just rang up the company that had been holding my bike from the scene, £420 quid for the holding and the delivery! My wallet is smarting.

Yeah I only have tp f&t.

edit*The derestriction was done by cutting the exhaust in half then rewelding it so it's kinda obvious.*edit

Cheers.

I wouldn't pay out for anything yet on third party insurance, not unless you are 100% sure that you are about to get a cheque. You can claim for all expenses incurred, bus, taxi, hire, etc, but if you don't win the claim you don't get it back.

I erred on the safe side and made do with lifts until the claim was settled, then I claimed petrol money back. My solicitor did advise me that I could claim expenses back but they also made it clear that I shouldn't go OTT.

I would also make sure that I could insure something first before I bought it after a claim.

Good luck.

Am I missing something here. You've got a full licence, so why would the derestrict bike be a problem?

Because the bike power isnt what it says on the tin so to speak. If that doesnt matter then I am much less stressed than I was about this.

You've got a full licence so the bike being derestricted shouldn't be a problem. Any reason you didn't tell the insurance co its derestricted?

I didn't say it was restricted or derestricted to them.

Wah, this is getting ridiculous. Does everyone have this problem with insurance? I feel like I'm going to be spending an awfull lot more money before I start getting any back.
