Has anyone on here ever traveled a really long way on their 125? Im planning a trip around the UK in 2 monthish and i just wondered what its going to be like!

I know we cant cover as many bikes due to the size of our CC's but part from that i dont think it can be that much different from doing a tour on a bigger bike!

https://www.re-moto.com/index.php?lang=eng <<<< these guys went around the world on Yamaha YBR's ( I would of picked a CG over a YBR!)

A guy clocked up massive amounts of mileage back in the '70s on a Mobylette moped.

If you have enough patients and determination you could tour the world on any bike. Will have a look at those links after I have done some revision... Laughing

There's a video on youtube of 2 guys who toured around Argentina and Chile on Suzuki GN125s, a bike that someone on this forum described as a "gutless piece of crap".

Anything's possible if you're determined enough, it's just how hard or easy you want to make the journey.

I promissed to myself that if I win the lottery I would take my RS125 for round the world trip, take some parts with me.. and then settle in the place where the bike dies in the end. Probably France or Germany Laughing

I would do the same on the GZ if I won the lottery, as I'd have enough money to not need to carry around loads of things, and if the bike died, I could buy a new one from wherever it dies (hopefully Ukraine, Dnepr FTW).

I'd get bored of the noise but then occasionally jump off the bike and stick my nose inside the pipe and smell the two stroke.

Then jump straight back on and ride another 1000 miles. Thumbs Up

I went from Crewe ( Cheshire ) To Nottingham on a cheap Chinese moped that cost about 30 p of Ebay.

That was 70 miles at between 20 ( At a slight incline as the bike was wank) - 42 miles per hour.
It was a killer, i went on huge roads !. Got lost and all sorts.
Took me 7 hours !, set off at 6 am because i was scared of like dying or something.
Big trips + Small bikes can be horrid.

What parts of the uk are you looking to cover on your trip? I did a ride out for comic relief in feb this year on my varadero 125.

The following route was 466 miles in total

Corby- (Home)
Banbury-(starting place)
Beots-y-coed-(halfway point)
Banbury-(finish)
Corby.

Took me 13 and a half hours Shocked Shocked

But i loved it. If you planning on passing though my neck of the woods of this area of the country then let me know may join you for a days ride Thumbs Up

I went to NOttingham (From North London) on my CG125.

Was a great experience, though I'd prefer to do it on a bigger bike. However, if I didn't care about time and had it to kill, give me an Aprilia RS125 or Cagiva Mito and I'll go as far as they'll take me.

Even when I pass my test I will keep my CG125 for commuting, they're so economic it would be foolish not to.

That is a good point, do you plan on doing a long day like the post above, or something longer like a tour of the UK coast line?

Me?

I'll answer anyway hehe

I plan on doing a MASSIVE tour of scotland when I pass my test and get my bigger bike.

Can anyone recommend any sports (or sports looking) bikes 500cc and beyond that combine the comfort, speed and nimbleness (by that I mean good filterablity) that would be good for such long distance trips?

ive done plenty of long trips on 125s.
If you stick to the a/b roads a 125 can be more fun than a bigger cc bike but if you hit the motorways 125s become a failure of epic proportions.
Rs125s are great little bikes but they wouldnt be my first choice for a long haul.

Have fun, take lots of piccies and enjoy yourself, absolutely no reason it can't/shouldn't be done. I miss riding the 125cc sometimes, I only moved on because the DVLA changed the laws and I had to do the CBT, so I though fook it, and took the full test instead.
