520 conversion

i am looking at putting a 520 conversion chain on my bike but cannot find the rear sprocket, i have found the frount sprocket but jt sprockets dont list my bike so it is quite difficult to find the 520 version of jtr 838, anyone have any ideas where i can find this information,

If you call up B&C, I believe they should be able to custom make a sprocket for you. Got a seriously over sized rear made up for my CRM125 for trail riding for a very reasonable price :up.

Can I ask why you would want to? It adds weight and you end up struggling to find non-standard parts. I can't see the benefit.

if i find the part no. the will be no problem finding them as jt or renthal sprockets will have them, it is for the strength mote than anything i go through a chain every 8 / 10 weeks and with previous bikes this has helped. i not bothered about the weight as it wont really affect performance as i don't race i just commute

What sort of mileage are you doing That seems a very short life for a chain.

i do on average 10 12 thou a year but it only got a 428 chain my cb used to last around 3-4 months but this bike chews them and when you change chain and sprockets together it gets a bit pricy

yep it is lubed and adjusted regularly but i find i have to adjust it around twice a week to keep tension correct

Something just isn't right there. I would expect to get around 7-10k miles on a chain if not more and I use cheap HD chains, cost around £25 for my GSXF.

Hi

While a 428 chain is fairly poxy they survive OK on far more powerful bikes than a CB125 (TZR125 for example). They should be lasting far more than 2000~2500 miles.

Check the rear wheel is in line (straight edge against the rear wheel and see where it goes on each side compared to the front wheel - ignore the marks on the swinging arm). Check the sprockets are fitted correctly (eg, some have an offset machined on one side, get those the wrong way round and you will land up with the sprockets out of line). Check the sprocket carrier bearing.

How tight do you run the chain? What are you using as a chain lube? What type of chain are you using?

while i am always hard on my chains (maybe the way i ride) i allways got between 5000 and 7500 miles for a chain but this bike just seems to be a pig with chains,

for 10 years i have been riding and servicing my own machines and never had a problem, after the first 2 chains on this bike i have regularly checked bearings alignment sprocket carrier,

even from new this machine has chewed its chain but it takes the Micky so now i want to try this,

i used to use proff dry lube from hein gerike but with this new chain i tried a can of doc 100 white chain spray i use jt sprockets and usualy did chains though latly as i am chewing them so much cheaperchais are used till i figure what to do, mechanically the bike is sound and all bairings and alignment done (twice this year) and the chain is normally tightened to 20/25 mm freeplay under load
