I've got an 07 R1 which I absolutely love. I rag it into town every day and only the other morning caught myself grinning as I opened the garage door, thinking how lucky we all are being able to do what we do. Recently however, I've been wanting to change riding style. Nothing's happened (as my missus keeps asking me), I suppose it's just that I'm getting older
So I thought about getting a bike that would wheelie and stoppie easily. I considered Supermotos (I love this Husqvarna), but when I thought about what riding I actually do (17 mile commute: half motorway, half London roads; taking my missus out at the weekends sometimes) I decided the best thing all round would be a streetfighter.
So I decided on a CB1000R. I liked it the best out of the Aprilia Tuono, Kawasaki Z1000, KTM Superduke 990, Triumph Speed/Street Triple, Yamaha FZ1 and Ducati Monster. For me it has the best combination of modern looks and aggressive styling and whilst some of the other bikes rate very highly (the Speed Triple notably) for me it was the best all round fit.
I spent pretty much every night last week on the internet looking into every detail, from which exhaust to put on it (G&G) to what colour to get (Repsol paint job).
Unfortunately, the test ride I did today didn't go well. I was out for and hour and a half and at first I hated it: It just felt really underpowered. I started coming round to it when I realised the best way to get the most out of the engine is to keep it around the 6/7 K rev range, so the power band's available immediately when you want it. I don't want to p1ss of CB owners: it's a great bike. Nothing felt wrong with the handling, I just couldn't help but feel underwhelmed by the Fireblade engine that I have read about being de-tuned for more low-rev torque.
So I got home disappointed, thinking what the hell can I get then?
And then I remembered reading here about the Moto Morini Corsaro Veloce. I know it's expensive but if I sell my R1 and get a loan it'll be £184 a month, £6 less than I'm currently paying on the R1. It also comes with 3 years warranty on parts and labour. (Someone tell me I'm going to need it)
I'm going for a test ride in a couple of weeks and I just know I'm going to end up getting one. Someone talk me out of it! Are there any other bikes I should consider? |

You sir, need a B-King. Please buy one, I've yet to see or know of any one actually buying one.
Also, my dad bought a 57 CB1300 the other day after years of gixxer riding, and loves it. Try higher capacity bikes ____________________ Journalist, student, egotist.

As above, Street/Speed Triple or B-King.
The triple has a lot of low-down grunt apparently which seems to be what you're after. ____________________ "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul."

200hp plus gxr1300, what a weapon, turbo to tiny pipe, must be truly deafening.
If its the same bike I'm thinking of, that has been the subject of numerous insane youtube videos. ____________________ "Do what you always did, get what you always got" |

I went through the exact same decisions when I moved up to my tuono last year mate. I went and did some proper test rides and made my mind up that way. Origionally I was dead set on having a Z1000 as I have always been a Kwak man but after a back to back test ride the Tuono won hands down.
You know you want one

I love my z1000, but have been enjoying it alot more since I put a nitro commander chip in (funds didn't stretch to power commander) and went up 2 teeth on the rear sprocket and put the set of stumpy cans on her.
She wheelies, stoppies and is tourquey all the way up the rev range. Power band used to be around 5k rpm, the chip has lowered this so I have instant reaction on the throttle from the off.
She's so differnt from the standard bike I bought, its something to remember when you're test riding bikes, there's loads can be done at home.
Don't have a lot of experiance, most of the bikes you have mentioned are too heavy for me. Touno was great, loved it, as was the buell xb12, but the z1000 ticked all the boxes for me. ____________________ https://www.bebo.com/Z1000-Wildkat |
