does it exist? i mean were VFR 400's produced in 1998 cause a local dealer has a VFR 400 and says it's a 1998

As I recall they stopped production of the NC30 NC35 and CBR400 somewhere around 1998 but dealers could still order batches of bikes apparently. This was even possible for the NC30 which was superseeded by the NC35 as I recall.

So its not beyond the bounds of possibility, but I'd treat it with a lot of skepticism...

Last of the NC30s was in 1993

NC35 lasted from 1994 to 1996 (RR and RT models, paintwork changes only)

NC29 lasted until 1996 (CBR400 Gullarm)

Everything else is late registered examples. I have seen a 2001 plated RVF for sale before.

I had a ZXR400 L9 (production ended in 1999), but mine was an registered on an '03 plate, not sure when it was actually imported though.

it sucks when you dont really get the original year of production cause of registration covering up.

well if i purchase this one i'll most definately cut down as much as possible off the price.

the tenth digit in the frame number is the age digit, these are some for you to check

although today i came over a CBR 400 RR and im sick of maltese people overpricing their bikes to get their money back, i mean c'mon

woah! haha even 2500 is too much?!

well he said it has a carbon silencer and he airbrushed it although that's his business its quite old anyways.


things is people here dont get it, they want practically all the money they spent on it, god i've got a feeling that if i wont give in to one of these guys it's gonna take me a while to find a bike.

i would import one from the UK or italy but i'd still end up paying import tax which would mount up to approx the same price range as these guys

The exhaust doesn't really add that much to the value, and the airbrushing could just mean it was in shite condition before, either due to a drop or general neglect..

At the end of the day, it's an old bike, ~15 yearsish.. And although it's a pretty thing it's not a lot of bike for a LOT of money. Admittedly I don't know Maltese prices but for similar money here you could get a pretty stunning GSXR srad if not a later model one, ZX6R, something along those lines, rather than getting a 400..

Seems absolutely insane to me to pay that much for a bike that is well past its best and wasn't all that awesome when it was fresh - even where you are there must be better deals out there!

What's the breakdown of the import duties? I'd be surprised if it really brought it that close to the prices you've mentioned, it'd have to basically be 100-150% of purchase value!
