Cardboard Boxes for moving house - help please

Right,

So I got to move flat soon and given that I've been in my current one for over 5 years now I've amassed an inordinate amount of crap which I need to get rid of. This part should be fine, I'm just going to bag things in black binliners and it will end up either in charity shops, ebay or the dump.

There's quite a few things that I want to move with me though and so I want to box them up so it's just a case of shoving a few boxes into the back of a transit when I do actually move. I don't have (m)any boxes already though so I need to go hunting. Went to my local Tesco the other day, but all they could give me was either boxes for half cases of wine (too small) or the sort of shallow palate boxes you get tomatoes etc in (pretty much useless for my purposes).

Anyway, my question is does anyone know where I can get decent sized boxes (about 2x the size of a half case of wine box up to about 1m squared) for free - or at least for pretty cheap? Any ideas will be appreciated!

My local Morrisons supermarket have banana boxes lined up by the tills to take away.

They come with a piece of card you use to cover the hole in the bottom. These make excellent boxes for transporting stuff (missus did car boots and swears by them). They have holes to make it easier to carry and as they come with lids you can stack them very easily.

So, Morrisons, banana boxes, free.

I always see and have gotten and given moving boxes via freecycle.

I used to work in Currys.....go there and ask them when they are expecting their next delivery as you want some cardboard boxes.
If they are decent...they'll be more than willing to give you some cardboard boxes of different sizes for free.

I would speak to some local manufacturing company. Go trawling round the industrial estates, there's bound to be one that ships/receives product in boxes. They will probably let you have a load for a few quid.

Either that or get bum-raped at staples or somwhere at about £5 a pop.

Another + for freecycle, I picked up about 30 boxes for nothing last week.

Pop into your local printers and slip the workers a few quid and you'll get loads of boxes,packing tape and bubble wrap....

Someone has said it...local printers...we get loads of boxes, which we usually destroy and put in the bin ready for recycling. You could also try the large furniture places, go round the back and look in the skips, or even ask in the shop.

Any supermarket that uses fyffes banana boxes. Big(ish), VERY sturdy, and I have at least 100 in my loft, as does my mother and girlfriends mother. My local ASDA used to have a large collection of various boxes for people to yoink at the farside entrance. They got rid of it though and when I worked there they just compacted the stuff. TBH it was getting recycled anyway, morons.

When we last moved, the missus worked at KFC. Their fries boxes are the perfect size! Again, just go in and ask.

Just make sure with any of these to use good tape, as there is nothing worse than a box falling apart!

B&Q do a good tape for boxes and packing stuff. Best one I've found.
