ok.......

so iv won a bike for £1500, the bikes in london and im in newcastle.

the plan was to pay by paypal and get a courier to pick the bike up.

my mum said, whats stoping him takin the money and denyin anything about the bike?

i think there was somthing on tv about it, "if you cant shake there hand, you might not get the bike/car"

i said a friend of mine was just going to check you have the bike and its at the correct adress (i have no intention of this happening, but just wanted to check incase he said no for whatever reason)

but he is happy for "my friend" to view the bike to check its at the correct address and he's the correct owner.

i also got the full reg and i will check that, which he was also happy to give out.

just asking on here for piece of mind really, what you guys think?

oh also, i thought i would check because he has low feadback.

hmm, assume you won it through ebay?

i only looked at bikes on various sites that i could at least take a train too so i could drive it home myself. Thats a fair old distance, do you have any friends in london that could actually go check the bike with you on the phone asking questions?

otherwise i dont know, he isnt going to let the bike go without money, but that means you have to trust the seller, unless you can muster up a london buddy to be there to put the bike into the courier and hand over cash at the same time

Acording to google maps, is over 12 hours there and back.

i dont fancy traveling all that way.

also, the bike is pretty much knew, only done 80 mile, so i wasnt worried about the condition.

How come you didn't factor the cost of travelling down to London in the overall price of getting the bike? Seems a bit of a daft way to go about things.

I take it you won this bike on ebay?

If it was me I think I would get the train down to london and ride the bike back. That way you can pay cash when you get your hands on your new bike

You are right to be cautious but honestly I dont think you should have bid if you have no way to get the bike -eg a mate down there.

I personally would not feel safe paypaling that kind of money, perhaps a nice bcfer will be your mate and check everything is ok with the bike im sure someone on here is from round there

good luck

No reason for the seller to be bothered about you collecting it by courier, makes it easier for him if there's anything dodgy about it as you'll have already paid by the time you get to see the bike.

Get the train down one morning then ride it back, you'd have loads of time. Much less risk than paying by Paypal and having the bike collected by courier.

Have you got your full license?

+1

OP you knew its location before you 'won' Rolling Eyes the auction.

12 hours round trip isnt bad, set off early morning and be home for T time. I got a train from chester to reading, bought a bike and rode it home in january freezing my nackers off! well over 400 miles round trip.

Keep your visor open, lots of fresh air. Razz

Take a map, some butties, snacks, sweets and a tea allowance and have a blast discovering all the small roads and towns between London and Newcastle.

Take your time and at least you'll be very familiar with your new 125 by the time you've got it home. Or as someone said, plan a B&B half way. Just take a big chain for the bike.

well that does sound alot of fun!

i dont get travel sick when im on my bike, part of the reason why im getting a 125 and not driving like most 17 year olds.

it would be the train getting there thats the problem.

i think the £99 courier will be fine, just hope it all goes well.

thanks for your help

+2.

I've had people do the same on me. I even had one guy make me wait at work all day on a Sunday saying he was on the way from Kent. 7 hours I sat there and he never turned up or gave an explanation. Bidding on something that you don't have the means to pay for/collect is twattish behaviour IMO. Good old eBay doesn't allow you to leave appropriate feedback as seller anymore either to warn other people of a time waster in the midst.

I once bought a DRZ400 from 250 miles away, but made sure I was able to get a lift down there and ride it back.

if thats a dig at me, i intend to pay for the bike and get a couier to collect it.

iv bought and sold motorbikes on ebay befor without problems, and have a good 100% feedback.

as iv said, i was just doing this to get opions and horror storys, or if people think hes possibly a decent bloke selling a bike.

he already knew my situation about this befor i even put a bid in for the bike.

Thanks.

Yet you're posting a thread on BCF asking whether or not you should go through with the sale Confused .

I'm not going to say that you have won the auction so must complete the transaction by any means possible. In fact, like many others here there's no way I'd buy a machine without looking at it first hand, especially from a seller with low feedback.

I'm just saying that if you don't have the means to inspect the bike on collection then perhaps you should wait until a machine a little closer to you crops up for sale. If you're going to bid on something and use a courier, then you are taking quite a large and unnecessary risk of being done up like a kipper.
