Warpped my front disk today by riding off with my disk lock on! Now when i spin the front wheel it spins freely till it hits one point in the disk then stops. It needs some effort to move wheel by hand but once its past the tuff bit it spins freely.

Took off the caliper and it looks fine! now there is a slight knocking sound coming from the caliper when you push it forward!

Ordered a new disc and it should be here saturday! I got no choice to ride it to work for the next two days but its only a 8 mile round trip! Will be taking it very easy thats for sure and using my back brake mainly! Iv got some new brake pads ill put in once i replaced the disc!

Just praying its just the disc which is fucked and not the caliper and disc!!!!

Ill find out saturday!

Disc will be bent,
always happens when people leave em on.
get a ruler and spin the bike with the ruler touching the edge of the disc see if it stays straight...

nope the ruler moves every time at the same part of the disc! has to be the disc then. Also iv noticed that the whole caliper moves slightly when the wheel becomes stuck!

Im now 95% sure its the disc!

Id be careful riding that as if its warped enough to move out enough to touch the pads lol.
Or if you need id desperatly, it will feel like its fading, as it will be strong as fook where its warped then go to normal braking around the disc, dangerious shit Laughing

Bad luck, matey Crying or Very sad

It was thanks to reading threads on here that the first thing I did when I bought my disc lock was attach a fluro bungie to act as a reminder. They're cheap as chips and very worthwhile - not that you're likely to ever do it again, but just in case Wink

lol, I just did this yesterday, had to call out the AA man since my lock was small enough to get wedged in between the disk and the inside of the front fork, only damage i sustained by the looks of it was a bent bit on the inside of the disk which was bent back, I dont think my disk has been bent but i will do the ruler test just to be sure.

its a bi@ch when its your own stupidity that costs you money

iv ordered a new disc should be here in less then 24 hours i hope!

Looks like a real simple job changing the disc on an XR! wheel off > Disc off > new disc on > wheel on > start riding!

5 8mm bolts holding on the disk! shouldnt take much more then 30mins to do!

ill let you all know how it goes. The thing is tho, i cant see an damage to the disc which is strange! but then again only needs to bend the disc 1mm to make the knocking sound im guessing

Doesn't alwys happen, but is was has happen to you sadly. Hope it is an easy fix. Check the caliper mounting too, as this may be damaged. It is far too easy to do, but like Tonka said, get a bungee chord and use it every time you use the lock.

I have a disc lock with alarm, it's so sensitive that if I put the key in the ignition it beeps.

Also, I attach the lock BEHIND the caliper, so if I did try and ride off, it would only have about an inch of rotation on the disc before contact, thus minimising the momentum the bike would build up had it be fixed on the opposite side (effectively giving an entire rotation of the wheel (likely to be over a metre of travel distance).

I don't know why people haven't cottoned-on to this. The number of times I've suggested it to people an I nearly always got a blank-stare in return. Some even admitted they had bent discs by riding off then went ahead and put it on the front anyway.

My brother smashed the caliper right off his fork leg once with a disc-lock.
