Ooh, that's a bit steep!
Still, it's less annoying than buying a pair of disks from breakers for £70 - only to be told in the MOT that they're wonkt then having to fork out £160 for brand new ones! ...AND I lost the breakers receipt Evil or Very Mad

Arrow I wouldn't know where to find the clutch on a car.
Arrow I wouldn't know what to do once I had found it.
Arrow I can't afford for it to be off the road for a week while various people try to un-knacker whatever I had knackered while foolishly attempting a task that's way beyond my mechanical abilities.
Arrow I don't have time to muck about with such things anyway.
Arrow Clutch needs doing before next Wednesday as we won't get up to Cadwell with the trailer with it slipping as much as it is at the moment.

Now let me moan in peace. Razz

That's Robby generally.

I like cars too, but I think I'm allowed to grumble about them when they make a huge dent in my pocket. Much as I grumbled about the bike when it went in for a service and came out £540 later.

most mechanical things are easy to do (if you have the right tools) so i say do it yourself! save yourself loads o' money.. even if you need to buy new tools you're still better off as you now have a new set of tools Smile

I fit a clutch on a 300ZX a few months ago, £50 for the clutch kit.. but a few hours of work. Had to take exhausts off, prop shaft etc.. damn those rwd cars Crying or Very sad

You should try having one that comes out at £690. Confused

Cars are good. The problem comes when you try to treat one like a bike. It won't squeeze through that gap, and when you overheat that clutch it will burn out. No nice oil flow to cool it down.

you could always buy a haynes manual for your car, they tell you how to do everythin inc electrics and engine servicing and completely stripping it. Think the clutch is at the flywheel in a car on the bottom end of the engine block, think you'll have to take the flywheel off to tho, this aint an easy task unless you have a flywheel removal tool, even then its pretty hard

To do the clutch on most cars you need to get the gearbox off.

I'd much rather pay 182 than even consider taking the gearbox off my car, then fitting a new clutch correctly, then putting the gearbox back on, then connecting up all the assorted rods and shafts. Then taking it to the local garage and paying them 20 quid to sort the tracking out.

Hi

£182 is not thaty bad for a clutch. Probably £50 of that is the clutch plate.

It is a job you can do yourself, but does take a while. Hire of an engine hoist would not be that much (or you could borrow mine, but the petrol would cost you more).

However it is one of those jobs where the car is disabled while you are doing it which could be very inconvenient if you cannot finish the job.

All the best

Keith

I would do it myself if it were my car, but then again I don't have £180 to give to a garage to fix it. It's not that bad, doing it yourself would be a pain in the arse Razz plus Haynes manuals are a bit poo sometimes especially when you cannot locate the area that is shown in the picture, and the spanner ratings are total bollocks Mad
