Picture stolen from garyboy-palaboy with his nc29.

The gearing here is what i presume to be standard, as you tap the footpeg down it pushes the linkage towards to front of the bike and due to it being mounted ontop of the gear selector rod thingy it turns this rod anti clockwise. to tap up a gear it does the opposite.

So. if i wanted to reverse the gearing all i would have to do is mount the linkage on the underside of the gear selector rod thingy and it would then be 5 down 1 up gearing as the rod rotates the opposite way.

To anyone who can understand that, am i right?

I think you're right. Although I also think that the connecting rod would foul the shifting pedal by your foot if you did that.

I've ridden a bike with reversed gears (an old CB550 cafe racer with rearsets) and it was quite scary when you forgot and changed down whilst accelerating.

Yep, you got it. Simple as that. Just make sure nothing fouls the arm or linkage.

Thumbs Up
