Help me choose the right bike

I will soon be in the market for a new bike and need some advice.

This will be my third bike since passing my full test so hopping to get it right this time. My previous bike was a GPZ500 and my current a ZXR750 (that needs some work).


My requirements are pretty specific and with your extensive knowledge of different models I thought you guys would be able to help.

I do not like really upright seating positions e.g VFR800 or Thundercat
Ideally lighter than 200Kg
Better fuel economy that the ZXR750 J1 (41mpg)
At least as quick with similar torque as the ZXR750
At least as much power as the ZXR750
A wider seat (like the ZXR750, rather than a narrow seat like GPZ)
Newer than 1991

ZX6R or ZX9R, from 98 onwards are definitely worth a look. Might be pushing your budget a bit at this time of year, but if you keep your eye out, can probably still find some good deals.

Older R6? Pretty reasonable prices at the moment.

Should be plenty quick enough as well although not sure about the economy.

TBH though I can't imagine economy being an issue that would decide a purchase unless you're commuting daily.

Good reliability as well. Older sports 600's seem to have reasonable values as there's so many around.

Er, ZX7R? The only bit of the bill it doesn't fit is the weight which is a tad over at 203Kg IIRC, but I'd say the planted front end makes up for that. Not 'torquey', but definitely torquey-ier than the ZXR, and you can get a decent one within budget. Or perhaps an RSV? Doubt you'll get one of those for £1500, but I bet you could get one at £2k ish.

You'll have a compromise with the power but loads about, cheap to run.

The unfaired one brand new is only £4300 and on 0%. If you had 2k to put down, you'll only be paying £55 a month over 36 months. It's a friggin' steal, it got me to thinking of chopping mine in.

I would say ZZR 600. Sat on one and it seems very comfy, you're sitting forward with your legs around the tank and the bars are quite far forward. I would say you could get a decent example for £1500. I am considering one for my next bike.
