Hi Guys,

Sold my KMX200 - im now a 1 bike man! (until i get my gasgas but don’t tell the Mrs)
so have a bit of money to sort out my Beta.
I was planning to take it to a garage but i need to stop being lazy and start sorting my own problems out.

Just wanted some advice before i start.
Firstly, The bike is a 2T and when its warmed up it still rides like its cold, no as smooth as it should - i think i need to clean the carb out but don’t really know how? do i just take it apart, stick some de-greaser or carb cleaner in, clean it and put it back together? anything i need to pay close attention too or any big no no's?

Also i need to replace my rear tire, is this easy? just like a push bike but bigger? any recommended places to get trials tires?

Lastly - this could be normal but strikes me as being odd.

when i run the bike for 20/30mins so everything is nice and warm the back box and down pipe cool down very fast but my expansion chamber stays red hot for ages? The chamber isnt that big and is the same metal and thickness as my back box - is this normal or is something wrong?

Cheers

hi,
stripping the carb is a fairly easy job.
theres a goode guide in here, written by Kickstart.
i dunno what make of carb you have but the basics are the same.
just remember what the settings are.
what clip the needle is on.
how many turns out the air/mixture screw is.
then give it a good clean.
you can buy aerosol carb cleaner cheaply.
one its been given a good clean, blow through all the jets etc, with an airline., making sure none of the jets are blocked.
you'll get an idea of the general state of the carb when you take the bowl off.
if its all stained with varnished fuel, then its probably best taking out the jets & cleaning them in some sort of solvent. (atomisers have tiny little holes around them, which can become clogged up with what looks like blobs of jelly! which is old fuel)
TYRES :duuno, i just buy them on-line & pay the £10-£20 to get them fitted.
EXPANSON CHAMBER: always found they do get extremely hot, but if your worried about it, do a plug chop.
good luck.
cheers,
GAZ

Cheers Gaz,

When you say settings is it just the idle screw and mixture screw? do you know the best way to find Kickstart's guide?

Thanks

As well as having the carb apart, you might want to consider a new plug, where trials bikes spend a lot of time at low revs, the plugs can oil up making them run rough.

As for the heat thingy, the silencer bit is full of wadding, so isn't going to get as hot as the expansion chamber which is not. Its also closer to the motor. Wink

hi,
here you go https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=17124
& i'd agree with previous poster.
get a couple of spare spark plugs, as they do foul quite easily, if the carbs not set up correctly,
cheers,
GAZ

The guide looks useful! thanks for that.

So, i will have a look at the carb and plug over the weekend and post back.

Cheers for the help.
