I refuse to carry out any research on the subject as I only get an average of 19mpg without A/C anyway. There is only one situation when the A/C gets used and that's at the car wash when the engine is only idling anyway. I don't get the big fuss with A/C in this country.
Opening window FTW. ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

I've read quotes saying up to 20%, and other quotes saying that the extra drag of having your windows open negates any saving by having the A/C off.
I don't notice any real difference in either of my cars, a MK4 Golf and a SEAT Alhambra, (both 1.9TDi) as my driving style has a much bigger impact. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

My car used to do 50MPG but has been creeping down to bout 39.
My air con works really well - frosty cool in seconds - only really been using it the last few days - especially as my car has black interior - really soaks up the heat when the sun has been on it.
Also i find having the window opend doesnt solve the problem of sweaty crack ____________________ A sucker for 2 strokes

Well, to be perfectly honest, if it's warm enough to have A/C these days I just put the roof down as I have a cabrio, but I'm fairly sure I never used to use the A/C when I had a coupe, I'm just too stingy. ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

Was talking to someone at work about this other week and as I always reset the trip when I fill up I know how it effects my economy. Been using it almost daily a couple of weeks ago in BMW 530d and it had no effect on fuel economy, about 47mpg, my assumption is that because the engine is a large heavy, torquey diesel then the pump really doesn't draw off much power, whereas a flimsy 1.6 petrol engine for instance is going to suffer quite a lot more.
I don't open the window because it messes my hair up |

I can't see a replacement air filter element coming to more than about 20 quid, which will pretty quickly pay for itself in saved fuel if your economy has dropped ~20% and you do a reasonable mileage. Neglecting basic servicing is almost always a false economy. |
He's right, our retail price for the air filter is £3.57 + VAT, not worth not doing it. ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

Yeah, definitely an underlying problem somewhere. I'd suggest getting your air flow sensor checked out. Have you worked out what MPG you are actually achieving? ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

My trip comp says i am doing 350miles per full tank (used to be close to 500) but it lies like a cheap japanese watch! only does about 200/250 - well seems to be on this tank, its been getting worse every time i fill up.
I will replace my filter, its only couple of £, may have a problem with my MAF but its more likely the fuel re-map mod i have
Made a huge difference to power but something may have gone wrong - think i will take it off. ____________________ A sucker for 2 strokes

I have heated grips but haven't a clue as to how much more fuel the bike uses if switched on.. ____________________ W-ireless A-rtificial L-ifeform L-imited to O-bservation P-eacekeeping and E-fficient R-epair |
