I picked up a ridged D1 frame at an auto jumble a few years ago with the intent of building a field bike with it

it's had several different disguises over the years, ie different paint work, forks, engines, & wheels, but never fully made it to complete as I have several other bikes that usually end up 1st in the que when it comes to spannering time

I've got every thing I need to build it up complete as a D1 competition model apart from the foot rest bar which uses raised pegs (can't seem to track one down anywhere)

anyway, I digress.

I thought I'd show & tell you all what I did to the tank.

after stripping it, filling a couple of pin head sized dents & spraying it with primer, I suddenly thought "I wonder what this would look like camo'd"

so I covered it all over in masking tape, drew blobby shapes on it, cut them out with a scalpel, & removed the bits I didn't want, before spraying it with a coat of white primer

(quick tip) leave the paint to set for at least three days before masking up again as any solvent still in the paint will soften the glue on the tape, leaving it behind when you remove the tape & making it almost impossible to get off the painted surface afterwards

then I masked it up again & after more shapes were drawn on & cut out, I gave it a shot of black paint

Then I did it all again using grey paint for the last coat

are you going to fit the epic 4Bhp 125cc or the more epic 175 cc, 12.6 bhp engine?

definitely not the most powerful of engines by todays standards but my old GPO model D10 could do 90mph easily & still have some left, although 0-60 could be timed with a sundial

it's got a D7 engine in it at the moment (3 speed, 175cc) but I do have a spare 125 engine on the shelf ready to go into it
(the tool box doesnt fit in there with the bigger carb in the way & I'd like it to have most of the right parts on there even if they're not the right colour

there is a tank in the picture but the image is rather large if you've opened it up in full size mode you will need to scroll around to find it

Ohh, that'll piss off the classic bods- like it!

Don't suppose many people on here would have worked out what a "D1" is though...
