 |
|
My GSXR is going to become my main bike within the next few weeks, and I was originally going to sell off my CB500. I've been thinking about having a go at learning how to do proper wheelies and stoppies etc, and thought maybe a crappy old CBR600 would be a good idea.
I did a search on stunt bikes on here for some info though, and saw that CB500s had been suggested as decent learner stunters, but wondered what people thought?
It would be easier in terms of not having the hassle of selling & buying a bike, but I'd have to do some modifications and things I imagine - crash cage etc? I don't know if the lack of power would make it too difficult? I can kind of pop the front wheel up with the clutch in 1st, but haven't really tried too hard, would a new sprocket set be needed or something?
Any advice would be good, cheers ____________________ 1999 GSX-R 600, 1999 TL1000R |

Also, you don't need to go to the US to get a crash cage, because they do them over here except they call them 'engine bars" !
|
As someone who tends to get a little irked by Americanisms, I apologise! |
Its OK, for sportsbikes and stuff they are called crash cages, but for the CB500, GS500, ER5, then engine bars do the same job.
What I'm saying is that Engine bars have been around for years for 'commutery' bikes, and they are crash cages in all but name. And they are about 80% cheaper. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade

You can definitely get 'em... my CB was an ex-school bike and was fitted with a good set of engine bars. I was so used to them that when I saw another CB without them it looked sort of wrong without them! ____________________ Previous: 2002 Honda CB500 (sold), 2007 Suzuki SV650SK6 (crashed), 2005 Yamaha FZ6 Fazer (sold). why not just use the GSXR? SRADs wheelie well, and come up nicely in 2nd if you try hard enough. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. Hi, I can wheelie my GS500 quite easily, however, I need to be going quite slowly to get it to balance, but once it's there, I'd say it's very easy to keep there as it's not as twitchy as my DRZ or SV1000 (SV just wants to fall over all the time )
I definitely think a GS/CB is a good starting point, having said that, I did start off learning on a sports 600 myself.
I've yet to crash from intentionally doing a wheelie. ____________________ TheShaggyDA: I've got 3 or 4 pairs that predate my wife, so at least 11.5 years old. |

My SRAD's still got its engine out at the moment, as we've just replaced 2nd gear, but should be good to go soon-ish... Hopefully. |
no pics as of yet, but the side panels have no damage, just the paint removed.
rear panels are blue and white. one side in OK condition, the other side has a pretty hefty scrape down it.
i've got about 4 sets in various states of destruction so i'll have a look. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles.
