Costs quite a lot of money to get started in that, I know it costs around £1500 to be qualified in about 4 days to jump out of a plane on your own (with freefall), although even then you're not really on your own as there are two instructors who jump with you and hold on to you to correct any errors and only let go when it's chute pullin time.
Christ knows how much money it would cost to be qualified to take people out on tandems and such, bearing in mind you buy the equipment yourself too.

Maybe you're looking at it the wrong way?
Not everybody enjoys their job. Some simply use it as a tool to afford to do pleasurable things in their own time.
I've been trying to work out what job I'd like to do since the careers person came into school, I'm 30 now and I still have no idea
I am coming to the conclusion (having completed ten years in my current job) that I'm unlikely to find that 'dream job', but that also it doesn't really matter to me.
Do the 9-5, pay the bills, then you can spend the rest on whatever floats ya boat - biking, parachuting, travelling, partying, whatever.
Once I leave the office on a Friday I do not think about work until Monday morning. I like it that way.
But yeah, 9k is utter pish. I'd change that sharpish if I were you. ____________________ CBR125|||GSXR400|||CBR400|||CBR400|||CB250RS|||GSXR750|||CB250RS

Why not jack it all in, pack a rucksack and head off for Koh Pha Ngan (for example) in southern Thailand, and book yourself in for a course of Scuba Diving lessons. Work your way into the role of instructor.
Or, get yourself down to Gosport, do a week's Sailing qualification (I forget what it's called now), then put your CV onto the MANY yacht charter sites, and take the helm of a yacht, OR, cash in everything you own after you get the certificate and head out to SEAsia and buy yourself a boat, and become a skipper of a sight seeing type adventure.
Or, get a working visa and go travelling and working around Australia, or NZ, or Canada. ____________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind - Dr. Seuss |

I agree with the working/travelling your way around the world idea. When you're older you don't have as much opportunity to do it, so now is the best time.
I know lots of people who've done it (did it myself only not in a massive way) and not one of them regrets it. Also, it gives you a lot of food for thought about what you might want to do when you get back too.
As well as everything else, it tends to make you more of an interesting and balanced person!

Why not just get one of the agency jobs paying more than 9k for now? Then you will at least be less skint while you figure out where to go next.
£6/h for building websites is utter wank. Minimum wage is £4.77 for your age, so you almost may as well be at Maccy D's. ____________________ CBR125|||GSXR400|||CBR400|||CBR400|||CB250RS|||GSXR750|||CB250RS

1.5k AFF
1k SKY U (better than UK WARP)
£20 a jump once qualified
£3 - 5k for a rig, then there are pheriferals
You will need two rigs to be a busy camera man.
Camera gear - The more you spend the better is it
You need 1000 jumps to apply to be a Tandem Master then its the cost of a course (not sure price, maybe £350?). Then you either buy a Tandem rig (8-10k?), or become employed by a centre and use their gear.
You get paid £25 a jump to do a Tandem.
You need 2000 jumps to apply to be an AFF instructor. Then there is a course to pay for again. Not easy to pass, you have to be GOOD! ie chase tumberling fatties in the sky and help them stable or pull for them.. Despite the fact sudents are taught to pull themself, as an instructor you have to proove you can fly to this level.
You get paid £30 per AFF jump.
You can expect say, 5 AFF Jumps and 5 Tandem jumps on a good day in the summer. Good money yeh? But, poor weather = no earnings.
One instructor can ear 1.5k a week in the summer. Thats a crazy busy week with lost of midweek work too.
Main problem with this a side the time and money spent getting there it epcect to have no life outside the centre.
Most of the instructors are divorced, never married, kids by different women. I should know, my boys Dad is one of the most dedicate parachute instcutors at a centre many of you will have been too.
I used to be a WARP coach, and camera girl. Loved filming Tandems - little faces lit up or petrifed
BUT 90% of the work is wekeends. . . !
If you want a happy family - do not go there.
Expect to need to jump abroad a couple of times a year. They have the weather, we don't!
Jump Herc, chopper (£45 a blow - more in the UK £70), balloon etc. . . all makes for a better instructor. Do some CREW, some Freefly coaching, get that rating. Its about badges, jump numbers and experiance.
Right - I'm late now. |
