Just bought a little Honda CBR 125 as my first bike to learn on and day 2 of ownership (its a 2007 model with 5k miles) it started to judder when riding before engine cutting out. Didnt start the first time it happened even using the choke so had to bump start it however within 20mins of normal riding after it happened it cut again and when i tried to start it again it worked but as soon as 1st gear was selected it cut out. Had to put the choke on to get it going again. Any ideas? Sad

No offence but it is probably a combination of you and some slightly sticky clutch plates and an engine that needs a service.

Try revving it very slightly before you select 1st and it should stay running.

Try cleaning the side stand switch. The side stand has a switch that prevents you riding with the stand down. If the switch is dodgy it will cut the engine when any gear is selected. Also could be a weak spring that holds the sidestand up allowing the switch to be activated inadvertantly.

When i owned a CBR 125 I had a problem that sounds similar. The carburetor hadn't been cleaned out for a while so it was full of gunk and there wasn't enough fuel getting into the engine, carburetors are a pain to sort so best take it to a garage if you haven't got a diagnosis yet.

also check your fuel pipes and make sure there's no splits or anything, make sure your air filter is clean aswell
