 |
|
Hi all,
I'm looking to buy a bike and have found one I like the look of. Thing is, it's been ridden through two northern winters without any protection so there's a fair bit of corrosion (nuts, bolts, connectors etc.).
What is the best way of dealing with this? Aside from replacing nuts and bolts (separate question, what's the best way to deal with corroded bolts?), is there a product that can clean/get rid of the worst? Will it be like fighting a losing battle?
I know of ACF-50, can it really work wonders?
Many thanks! |

Used it on bolts and stuff, removes most of it. then a brush of some sort to remove the stubbern crap.
Some one off here posted a video of it cleaning a ruted shock. Awesome stuff.
then coat it in acf50 or wd40

I used vinegar to fizz off alot of rust, and then some fine sandpaper to get the more stubborn stuff off.
24 hours later, all the offending bolts were covered in frsh bright orange rush again.
I'd say replace them or don't bothered cleaning them. I think they must be coated with something from factory, to stop them rusting. (Plated with something maybe? Alot of new bolts I have put on my bike seem to be anodised a gun metal sort of colour) ____________________

I forgot to say a tip ive heard before is after wirebushing etc,
clean it with degreaser or whatever, then laquer the top, might be good to apply this with a brush after its been screwed in, but then next time you unscrew it youll take the laquer off ____________________ Past: '05 Peugeot XPS '99 Aprillia RS125 '94 FZR600R

rust is caused by 2 things.
moisture, and oxygen.
take away either of these and rust cant form. best way is to laquer it (as suggested) or just get new bolts as its a lot less effort. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. So what makes chrome plated stuff rust, if chromium is meant to be rust resistant? ____________________
