Rebuilding the clutch on the GS125. The friction plates have a notch cut out on one of the tabs of EACH friction plate.

Any reason for that? Ie they need to go in a line or altenating degrees for each plate?

I've doctored and attached a picture up to indicate what I mean.

Need to get it right as I'm about to gasket the side cover up after this.

Kind regards.

No reason I can think of. Might be a jig locating notch as part of the manufacturing process.

Cool stuff, I'll go with that.

Many thanks.

Could be yes, good point.

Kind regards.

I've never even thought why it would stop them sticking together before but it could be that, if placed alternately, the lines on the plates don't all match I guess. Thus making it easier for them to come apart.

But there are steel ones inbetween them all.

For what it's worth. The last clutch I did had them and I lined them all up in the same slot. Seems to work fine.

Last clutch i did had those notches on all plates.
The clutch basket had 3 notches on it, the plates had to be alternately aligned to each.

Thanks, I did have a nose on the basket but couldn't see anything. I'll check it out further when at home later.

If all the nothes are in the same place wouldn't it cause a balance problem? If I saw that I'd tend to space the notches evenly around the basket. Remember, these things spin at the same speed as the engine, fookin fast.

Typically they will spin at 1/4 to 1/3 engine speed.
