Well, here's my first bike, a 1984 Suzuki TS50X, bought for my 16th for £150 we spent a further £175 on it to get it through the MOT.

Fast Forward a year and it all goes to pot =[ doing 40mph @ 10500rpm there was a massive clunk and it went slightly quiet. Luckily it was 200 yards from home after a 40 mile trip out to help a mate put a new engine in his car.

https://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb73/sam_billing_91/Photo-0118.jpg

an hour later and it was a bit less 'TS' shaped =/

One weekend I was bored so removed the engine

https://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb73/sam_billing_91/Photo-0126.jpg

I finally got time to strip the engine down and it didn't look good, aside from cracking the skirt of te piston I toasted the oil seals and all of the bearings

https://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb73/sam_billing_91/Photo-0112.jpg

One cylinder head
kinda dirty Sick
https://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb73/sam_billing_91/Photo-0195.jpg
lovely and shiny! Cool
https://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb73/sam_billing_91/Photo-0196.jpg

Some polish 'fell' onto the clutch cover, so I had to remove it and it CLEANED the side!
https://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb73/sam_billing_91/Photo-0221.jpg
https://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb73/sam_billing_91/Photo-0222.jpg

I then started on the frame, gave it a thorough clean and a lick of gloss black paint aswell and stripping the brakes and wheels off for a proper clean.

https://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb73/sam_billing_91/Photo-0236.jpg

Then last month I got all the wheels and brakes back on, but am waiting on an engine bearing so hae left the engine out.

Please don't laugh at the 'TSXR' stickers, it was faster than all my mates 50's (it was still a genuine 50cc, I didn't have the money to big bore it) so it sort of adopted TSXR XD

Comments are welcome =]

Looks like that protective layer of grim kept your wheels nice and shiny underneath.

Make sure while its apart, clean everything you possibly can, get to all the hard to reach places while you can etc.

When you reassemble, it will look loads better.

I didn't get pics, but I had it down to very nearly componant parts, the frame had the forks and head light and that was it, got the pressure washer on it and blasted the dirt out, just need more gloss black paint for the frame XD

I live out in the sticks and the only way to get anywhere is on a dirt track or across a field, so it does get very dirty very quickly! The back wheel was the worst bit for keeping clean, but the 2 stroke leaking from the pipe kept it well protected, all I had to do to clean it was dab some petrol on it, then I gave it a quick rinse with water =]

When I had it to bits I found out it had a Mikuni VM17 carb not a VM15 as it should, which along with my home derestricted exhaust probably contributed to it being able to top an indicated 45mph! I'm going to be making my own sump guard as I will be using it across a really lumpy field and through a forest, and don't want £200 to disappear because of a rock and a hard landing.

element, I can't help but feel that the fat bit of the exhaust (sorry, not a two-stroker in the slightest, so excuse my ignorance) looks a bit, well, unprotected. I can see that there's nowhere to mount a plate of any description, but still; I'd be shitting it every time I went off road...

Am I just too much of a worrier?

edit: I've just looked at some professionally made ones, to sate my curiosity, and it appears that yes, I am too much of a worrier.

Incidentally, that's a fine looking crosser, and the bashplate (when compared to ones you'd pay for) is a very nicely-done piece of kit.

I have a few updates, the clutch thrust bearing is on the way, should be here next wednesday. I managed to get the engine back in with some help from my dad (big thanks to him, wouldnt have the bike if it weren't for him) I have more paint for the frame, so will be painting it soon.

I was flicking through fleabay a few days ago and had a look for a sump guard, there was one for £25 + some p&p, looked on an hour later after having a think through and to my surprise there was one for £6 + £5 postage, score one for me lol it should be here monday, ready for me to give a lick of paint Very Happy

I honestly couldn't justify spending that much on my bike tbh, if i had the money I'd probably have had the frame powder coated and maybe have the wheels respoked, but its too expensive for me to think about and too much hassle.

Does anyone know where I can buy a new rear shock? mines had it and i want a new one rather than a used one.

Im trying to get hold of a rear panel support as mines rusted out and a kickstart shaft as mine is ruined and i have to bump start it

Yes, on a bike that has now done well over 24k, done over 8k since I got it in January, has NEVER let me down, and has been to Cardiff and back, from North wales. A round trip of 512 miles !
Mine is also 15 years newer than his.
Jamie.
