What do you do when the throttle cable snaps?

10 miles from home, 24 miles from work.

Do you;

A: Increase the idle speed and ride that home?
B: Wrap the broken cable around your finger like a cheese wire and tug that?
C: Phone road side rescue?

I opted for B. Almost killed my finger and it made juggling the throttle cable and front brake quite precarious but got me the 10 miles home.

A. was no good, speed was too low and interesting looks from passes by when you had to stop for give way, clutch in and revs shot up to 6k permanantly. Didn't do the temp any good either.

C: Just no.

i cranked my idle speed up to 10k on the GSXR. still meant that i got home at 60mph and couldnt accelerate at all.

This happened on my zxr, I just turned up the idle speed as far as it would go and rode it home at 50mph !

What a stich, first time it's happend to me.

Incidently I already replaced the old frayed throttle cable with a spare one some time ago as frayed one didn't looked like it would do the distance(bare in mind it already served me 6 months of first having the bike) and it's the perfectly good replacement one that snaps on me!

I did over 40 miles at 35mph when my throttle cable snapped. I used the Idle speed method. Worked quite well TBH, still got home quicker than waiting for the AA to come!

Belive it or not, I once rode home with a broken throttle cable and a broken clutch cable. i wrapped the inner throttle cable around the throttle tube and changed gear without the clutch. luckily I only had about 2-3 miles to get home - I took the back roads and prayed i wouldn't have to stop - which, as it was late at night, I didn't.

I swapped the push cable over at one end when my FJ cable snapped. It worked, but you had to twist the throttle the wrong way to rev the bike. Got me the 50 miles home, but a bit scary when changing down the gears.

Attach the cable outer to the fork stanchion or top yoke using a cable tie or jubilee clip.

Attach the inner to the outside of the throttle twist grip with another cable tie or jubilee clip.

OR

Get the Hein Gericke cable repair kit out from under the saddle and repair the cable.

Ride home normally.

not directly the same but my clutch went on my rs125 many years ago, and i had to ride it home 10 mile through urban roads - the method.. clutchless gearchanges up and down... not too bad on the RS - but when got close to traffic lights etc get down to slow speed then kill it on the kill switch, to ride off again ride it on the starter button elecy go cart stylee! was fun and luckily enough didnt damage anything Mr. Green
