Just bought an RS125 (full power) after searching high and low for a good one. Got it home this week and it was working fine, however come home from work and it wont start..
it started once for me but then cut out after about 2 mins whilst idling..
mods its had as far as i know are the rave unit, power valve, full racing arrow exhaust system, ngk plug an ngk HT lead, new piston. The bloke said he likes to run it rich for better performance as well..
I know the basics but any ideas please? Would be much appreciated cheers

Hi two strokes dont like to be left to idle too long due to the spark plug being fauld up from all the unburnt two stroke oil , my nsr 125 is the same it will cut out after two minutes if left alone.

As for the mixture being richened i think he has done this due to race can but he should of got a set of jets to compensate for that , correct me if im rong any one.

hi,
i'd agree with the above.
especially if it has BR10 plug, probably fouled due to it idling for too long.
try a new plug, & dont let it idle.
if your not going to be revving the tits off it, consider using a BR9 plug.
cheers,
GAZ

As above really. If it's rich on the idle circuit and using a 10 grade plug then at least give it the odd blip of the throttle if it's idling for a while to clean the oil off the plug. Chances are you've oiled up the plug you have so try a new one and always carry a spare.

Okay thats great cheers, its got a standard NGK plug at the moment so its probably just choked up to hell. I will whip it out n give it a clean see if it helps.

Hi

As above with the plug. The number with NGK plugs is the heat range. The higher the number the colder the plugs (basically reduced / increased insulation to change the amount of heat that escapes via the plug). Higher numbers will foul up more easily, while lower numbers will overheat and blister. Aprilia listed an 8 for the restricted bike and a 10 for the full power bike.

As to it running rich, you will probably need to richen the mixture up to go with the Arrow pipe. However running too rich will lose you power. Running too lean will also lose you power, but also risk a seizure. Hence people tend to go slightly rich for safeties sake (and a rich mixture will foul the plug more quickly).

All the best

Keith

Yeh i think your right also it could be the fact that im used to starting up my 1st bike (which was a 4 stroke) and just letting it tick over before riding to work so i will have to clean up the spark plug or get a new one methinks. Cheers keith nice one mate Thumbs Up if the spark plug dont work then il be back on here for help lol Very Happy

Not hugely relevent to the original post, but with the RS125's best way is to start em and ride em keeping them under around 5k until the temp lcd shows around 65ish, thats when i used to start using the powervalve, Make sure your using good quality 2stroke oil, similar to Castrol TTS Power1 or similar.
Lovely handling little bikes, i may go back to one again Laughing
