 |
|
Having just commuted home with a small ocean thrown in my face , I found that my 'waterproof and windproof' jacket isn't quite up to the job any more...
It's not that old, but realise that I may need to get it waterproofed with something. It's a synthetic textile one, and it is very windproof.
Any suggestions on what to use to improve it's repellent ability when it comes to the best weather Wales has?
And ditto for the leather gloves too. Absolutely no idea how to do those as they've got about a kajillion knobbly bits to protect my digits if I ever off . They have got holes for breathing too, but noticed that the rain just soaked into the leather.

Nikwax is the stuff you need. You add it to a machine wash.
Dunno about leather gloves though. |

Leather gloves can never be waterproof, it's down to the stitching. ____________________ CBR125|||GSXR400|||CBR400|||CBR400|||CB250RS|||GSXR750|||CB250RS

I just buy big bottles of Nikwax waterproofing spray from Ebay and cover myself from head to foot after having a shower. That way regardless if my gear leaks or not, I'll always stay dry... Feels funny though...
Seriously I do get this stuff and spray/wipe it over my gear, leather gloves and boots included (only after using leather proctection on the boots though), it works a treat but does need redoing every month or 3.

It doesn't have to be Goretex to be waterproof....
At home I left behind a pair of rubber overboots , and overgloves, 100% waterproof. I also left behind a rubberised jacket of sorts also 100% waterproof, same with oil skin jackets very waterproof..
The only advantage to goretex is that is it 20% breathable, hence if you buy a dry suit they use for cold water diving like at lake Baikal you will be dry from the outside water , except you will sweat tons and tons...
I have out here in Mongolia a 100% plastic sheet tarp type pair of water proof over trousers they really are 100% water proof and non breathable, hence when I take them off I am wet but not from the rain but my sweat. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die.
