Hi all had a week off inbetween trying to fix my tt600 and sleeping my mrs said that i should get anotherbike thats more reliable(not that tt has had any major ones but she sees tires chains as being unreliable) i jumped at the thought!!

will have to save for a few months but been thinking busa???
is it a too dramatic step up?

i have been thinking busa cos i am tall tall tall at 6ft6 so not many bikes i dnt look a complete tit on or very comfy!
i appreciate the sheer power of a busa but imagine its a different power delivery to a il4 1000 ?
want to do some touring next year as this year epic fail on that front!
also have a love addiction to busa, has to be gold, heard they are 5bhp more as they have gold power bands!(bad attempt at humour)

also been thinking of zx12r again great bike triumph daytona 955 maybe aprilia mille still love those.

im only floating ideas in m head but once sold tt600 1700quid ish plus 1500 ish that will be saved thinking budget around 2.5 to 3.5 ish less is better!!

any opinions or other bikes to think about more than welcome

Unless you have seriously good self-discipline a Busa will put you in way over your head at some point.

get it if you want it.

Although, as your wife's opinion of unreliable is using up consumables then surely you should be looking for something with less power.

If a TT600 is going through chains, sprockets and tyres then surely the busa is just going to be a lot worse unless you take it easy, and I don't think that's the reason anyone buys a busa.

good luck with finding the right bike.

Have you had a sit on a busa? for a big bike its cramped to fuck i'm 6' 3" and found it just as uncomfortable as a full on supersports.
so if part of your motivation is to get something more comfortable i would definitely try before you buy.

thanks guys i dont go through excessive chains tires but she sees it as the bike being unreliable??

i havent sat on one yet will start doing as the time comes closer!
An interesting point about the size being small for a big bike!

i am a reasonbly disaplined rider i know my limits and stick to them.
i was thinking the same but would it be any different to jumping on a 750 gixer or 1000r1 obviously a bigger jump but in my head they are pure sports aimed bikes where as the busa is a tourer(to some degree) and it would have a different style of power?

some saving must be done 1st .any other bikes i commute daily my only transport like to have a fun blast every now and then

keep ideas coming and opinions

cheers guys for your help

Well she will continue to think that of the 'busa, especially when you shred rears in a couple of thousand miles. They will be more expensive tyres too.

Yes, from what I understand it does have a different style of power - it has fuckloads everywhere! Designed to have shattering acceleration in any gear, at any speed (yeah I know it's a slight exaggeration, but meh).

If you commute daily, get a cheap hack for under a grand (a few hundred quid), could even get a shaftie. Cheap consumables and low fuel costs, and can still be fun. Hell, I enjoy my GS at least as much, if not more than my SRAD.

Keep the current bike as your weekend toy.

Getting a 'busa does not seem to meet the requirements of your situation at all.

If your missus is used to cars she may see the wear of your tyres etc as being a bit excessive. For instance it's not rare to get 10,000 miles out of a small family car's tyres. Your chain might last 10,000 miles, but a car's driveshafts could do 100,000+ (not a fair comparison I know).

I think what you should be thinking about is comparing what you use your bike for now and what you want from your next bike. For instance, do you use your TT for year-round commuting, or is it just a pleasure machine? If you want to do some touring on a 'busa and use your bike for pleasure a couple of times a week, there's no reason why it wouldn't make a perfect bike for you. However, if you're using the bike all year round I reckon it might be even harder on consumables than your current bike, but still not impossible to live with.

As for if you're ready for it, I think the only person who can answer that question is you.

Why the fuck did it take your wifes suggestion/allowance to get a new bike?

God i would be gutted if i did not get 15K out of my car tyres......

If the OP is looking at touring and reliability. Then a shaftie is really the way forward.
Even something like a goldwing might be a idea... Or even a BMW....

In an actual response, the 'Busa makes power very similarly to an IL4 of any level.

What it does, that others dont however (exceptions of modern IL4 thou's taken) is produce rather large amounts of torque. Everywhere. (Due to the larger capacity of 1300cc)

Therefore it will make its "peak" power within the same parameters your IL4 600 does. However, before you even remotely reach that point, it will have squeezed the shit out of your small intestine. Thumbs Up

Id personally get a Older ZZR1100, as for the money you've got aside you can stock up on the ol chain and sprockets and rears.

I imagine you could pick up a MINT (not colour before the funny comments emerge) ZZR1100 for the price of a "cheap" busa , if you get what i mean.

Or a Blackbird (no im not being sexist or racist) iv heard of quite a few of these racking up some ridiculous miles.

Ride all 3 before deciding thats what i'd do.

Karma Thumbs Up

I'm thinking second-hand (obviously Doh!) CBR1100XX, aka Honda Blackbird, meets that criteria while also being quite a quick bike.

So other than the 6 mile daily commute, how often do you use the bike?

For a 6mile commute then personally I would be looking at something very cheap to run, something like a CG125, CB250 or a H100 for 2 smoke amusement.

I would cycle that tbh, but understand that is not an option for all.

To appease the wife, I would get something cheap for the commute, and then a fun bike for your touring and blasting duties. Would have thought your current bike is more than adequate for those duties, but can understand if you want a change.

If you are going to change, then just test ride all the ones you like - 955, 12R, 'busa, Blackbird (would be on my list), and pick the one you like most, and can afford.

That way, not only do you have a cheap bike to use daily, you also have a second bike to fall back on if something goes wrong.

And yes, I did know that was Napoleon Dynamite....

Mind you, my car needs new disks and pads all round, 3 new tyres and a pair of suspension springs.

After 15 months.

That's sodding costly... Evil or Very Mad

The power is something you kind of get used to. It still has the ability to wake you up sometimes though. The last moment I had was when I squeezed the throttle in 3rd on a wet road to slide by a car on the way to work, and did exactly that - the back end went bonkers!! Ive since removed the shitty avons and put on some Pilot Road 2's, which according to the lads over at UKbusas could be good for anything up to 4k miles.

If the busa is going to be a second bike then things like chains arent really going to matter as you wont be doing many miles.

As for space, my mate who is 6'5" ish had always wanted one but when he got on mine and rode it for a while he said he found it a bit cramped and the pegs were too high for him.

Power delivery is fantastic, coming from a modern 636cc IL4 the way its delivered isnt too different but its a lot less frantic. You don't play hide and seek for the power at all and the bike will pull from anywhere easily. Could make you quite a lazy bastard like me I imagine.

When it comes to bikes Im a big fan of 'do what you want'. If you want one, get it. At least try one (everyone should at least try one Laughing )

Thumbs Up

At 6 foot 6 a 'busa will cripple you. They are murder on tall people. If you are after hyper-performance then go and test ride a ZX12-R. They are far better for tall people in terms of both riding comfort and wind protection. Pillions prefer the 'busa though as it is more comfortable for pillions (yes even more uncomfortable for a tall rider with a pillion on board).

I tried a busa, i want a busa, as villers said, you should at least have a go of one, i'm 6'2 and found it relatively comfy, but failing getting a busa, then i'd be n the look out for a mint zzr1100 or blackbird.

The 'Busa, although it may look a big bike, it isn't for very tall people.
