Law on 2 strokes...

Done a quick google search and can't find my answer. I'm looking to buy an EXC 125 as a mess about but with all this green britain bullshit circulating am I going to find it's illegal to run in a few years?

Doubt it'll be made illegal to ride a 2-stroke, but with the way the government dishes out ironic legislation on the environment (for example the scrappage scheme that pollutes the planet further producing the new cars, than the old cars could ever manage) you could expect to pay a slightly higher rate of tax on 2-stroke engines in a few years time. Even that is just assumption.
My reckoning is that new 2-strokes sold will have to be de-tuned for efficiency, making RS, mito etc redundant, forcing an end to the culture, through making it look the manufacturers stopped it.

2-strokes are too important to bikers for the government to outright ban them. Even those of us who don't like them, see some of the bikes as iconic and would slap some governmental face if they banned them. Just make sure you place your vote at the general elections well.

Yea I reckon they will just be phased out and proportional to the amount of vehicles on the road 2-stroke are a relatively small percentage so dont have a massive impact.

Shame as I do love 2 strokes.

Hi

Think even with direct fuel injection it is pretty easy to make a 2 stroke cleaner than a 4 stroke. About 15~20 years ago a few of the major car makers were looking at 2 stroke car engines (there was a fleet of prototype Fiestas on loan from memory), but the car companies weren't happy with the expected 50000 mile life.

Two stroke car engines, straight-6 would sound immense.

Would eat 2T oil a little bit though I think. I don't think they would ban two strokes but as someone as said before they will just make the manufacturers de-tune them to reduce emissions and bullshit like that.
