Decided to sort out all the piles of papers at home yesterday, you know the stuff - bank statements, bills, insurance documents, crap, crap and more crap that have piled up over the last couple of years. None of it really important, except for one thing - my bike MOT certificate!
Noticed it had run out middle of June! Thankfully all the cop cars I've had following me at various times over the past month or so have never run the usual checks on my reg. The bike was MOT'd again last night and I'm making sure I won't forget it next year... never realised the bottom of the certificate has a little sticker you can peel off!!
Lucky is definitely the word of yesterday... ____________________ Previous: Aprilia Habana Retro 50cc (beauty), Yamaha SR125 (fell apart), Honda XR125 (nippy little commuter), Honda SLR650 (Geewhizz), Yamaha Diversion 900S (Smoooooth) written off courtesy of a stupid escaped horse.

I can beat that - I assumed the KTM's MOT ran out with the tax (I've not had it a year yet). It didn't. It ran out in February. I discovered this last week. ____________________ Photos and that |

Damn, I'm just a beginner at this!!
Also to add, went on holiday in the car this February and got stopped on the motorway, turns out the MOT ran out the week before and we didn't realise!! Thankfully managed to get it done the day after whilst on holiday... still got the £60 fine though...b'stards... ____________________ Previous: Aprilia Habana Retro 50cc (beauty), Yamaha SR125 (fell apart), Honda XR125 (nippy little commuter), Honda SLR650 (Geewhizz), Yamaha Diversion 900S (Smoooooth) written off courtesy of a stupid escaped horse.

I was driving my car MOTless for a few months this year too, it's easy to do but look at it this way, it's extra MOT time for free as long as you never got caught ____________________ ZX6R + CBR600RR |

The wife had been driving without MOT for a year - I thought I'd done it, but it was my car I had the certificate for. Didn't realise until it was due again. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

I feel pretty damn efficient now, seeing as my car MOT only went a day over!
It was purely by chance that I was going through the paperwork though. ____________________ CBR125|||GSXR400|||CBR400|||CBR400|||CB250RS|||GSXR750|||CB250RS

I've lost the MOT certificate for my bike.
It might turn up when I unpack all the boxes from the house move.
taxed my bike online, and used this
https://www.motinfo.gov.uk/
to check when the MOT runs out. very handy |

Woops indeed...
This thread prompted me to check my own MOT and what do you know? The Blade expired in November.... eeekk!
I've been riding the little RXS loads so I've not been putting too many kittens at risk, but I'll be getting one asap for the Honda. ____________________ 2007 CBF1000 & 2016 CBF1000F - Commuter heaven | 1994 CBR600FR - Awaiting defibrillation |

It sounds like I'm probably the most organised here, I have one of those cases that when open has several separate sections. All my paperwork is kept in there. So there never is a pile of paperwork to go through.
Also when I get a new diary, I go through the old one and write down important information in it.
Not very exciting to be organised but fantastic for the CV! ____________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind - Dr. Seuss |

Before I went to Spain on my trip I had a date set in my head for the car MOT running out, so thought I would check it. This was end of June, I found out it had ran out in March so 4months out!
The next day I had it tested and it failed on:
All brake pipes
Front Brake Pads
Rear Shock mount needed some welding
Rear Shock
Rear Wheel Bearing
Full Exhaust (it was blowing too much, too loud, and too many emmisions)
Rear Tyre had a cut in it
I was going to sell it the next month, but the cost of that stuff that needed doing, which I had been running around in it in that condition! I wasnt going to get anything back ...and so it went on Ebay
Couldn't believe I had been running it around for 4months though, just had a date set in my head, I'd had cops behind me and stuff, yes I knew about the exhaust being abit blowy, and the brakes not being very good but not all of that!

There's also always the 1 or 2 posters who love to jump in with 'Man up', 'It's your fault', 'Police are just doing their job', 'say it to their face'... etc, etc.
I couldn't give a shit about the policemen who stopped me, it's not personal. Of course it was my fault, I made the mistake but why the fuck should I give £60 of my hard earned money to the government because I made an error. How about giving me a point on my licence instead - I'd almost agree with that!! It's nothing to do with safety or having paperwork in order, it's ALL about getting more money. This government is the greediest government I've ever come across! Everything is a fine, and if it gets them money like speeding, they'll put more in to get more out.
Now how about issuing a warning or giving me 48hrs to get the car MOT'd and then going to the nearest police station to prove I've done it, but no, coz that won't get them their money will it!!
As for having the balls to say this to their faces.. are you fucking stupid!? Yeah course I will, I'm sure Mr Policeman will only be too happy to hear my point of view and take it on board then let me on my way with a smile! ____________________ Previous: Aprilia Habana Retro 50cc (beauty), Yamaha SR125 (fell apart), Honda XR125 (nippy little commuter), Honda SLR650 (Geewhizz), Yamaha Diversion 900S (Smoooooth) written off courtesy of a stupid escaped horse.

Seeing as you decided to ignore the clarification and take the majority of it personally anyway;
Two things. One, I'm not one who regularly supports the police and will certainly criticise when I see fit. Two. I may be "fucking stupid", that's a purely subjective opinion and you're welcome to yours but personally I won't say anything about someone I wouldn't say to their face regardless of uniform or position, it particularly grates seeing the insults heaped upon people who in the main are doing a job they feel is in the public interest. Not going to argue as to whether they're right to feel that or not, but the majority of the force are just people doing a job and in some small way trying to make the place safer. The whole us V. them attitude is exacerbating the problems we're seeing, particularly when it comes down to snide and anonymous insults coupled with misplaced resentment. That goes as much for locker room banter in the job as it does for you and me, both sides do it and feel alienated resulting in a lose/lose situation.
If you can't see the point in the fine levied upon those who are driving not in accordance with the laws - one of the few even vaguely sensible traffic laws at that - then where does the line stop? The MOT isn't a panacea for the problems of gauging vehicle maintenance and road-worthiness but it's better than allowing utter sheds free use of the highways. In response to the grace period idea, why should you get one? You've had a month toward the end of the year long MOT period to sort out another test, that's not exactly a small period of time. The fine isn't exactly a new thing, it's not a recently developed cash harvesting technique but a long standing incentive to keep your paperwork in order.
I'd guess it'll go the way Fitzy mentioned in the not too distant future with reminders being sent out. Gods forbid anyone actually organises their own lives, all you're doing is supplying more ammunition for the idea of a central government controlling everything, after all you're clearly incapable of doing it yourself and taking responsibility when you make a mistake or forget. ____________________ I'm immortal. I bought a bike with 12months MOT, for some reason thought it had 12months tax as well - 3 months into riding, I found out it hadn't been taxed since '97 ____________________ Current: Suzuki RG 125 Gamma, Honda H100, Triumph Tiger 800XC, Suzuki SV650 (minitwin) |
