bouncing rev counter on a mito evo

i brought a mito evo yesterday and when the bike is stood still the rev counter seems fine but on the way home i must of been doing 7000revs and the counter bouncing around 2000revs , but all so the temp gauge is doing it , what could be making it do that ?

I'd give your charging circuit a check... search the forum if you're not sure how to do it.

First of all, give your battery a full charge with a proper bike charger (or a car charger that charges at no more than 4 amps per hour)

Using a multimeter set to Volts DC (The next setting above 12v) you have to test the charging circuit.

Gain access to the battery and put the red probe from the multimeter on to the positive terminal of the battery and the black probe on to the negative of the battery. Take a reading. Note it down.

Turn the ignition on. The reading should slowly drop a little. If it drops a lot your battery's knackered.

Press the starter button - again take a reading. The battery voltage should not drop below about 9 volts. If it drops too low your battery's knackered.

With the bike running, take a reading of the battery at varying stages throughout the rev range. It should never go above approx 15v, or below 13v. If it does then your battery could be at fault, or you have a charging circuit problem with either wires, connections or the alternator/generator and/or regulator/rectifier.

ok cheers for that alun111 i changed the battery for a new 1 i brought a week ago and it still done it , and i found all so now that the bike is ticking over and it said i was doin 4000 revs , rite time to play around with the wires

Check the connections on the back of the clocks for corrosion and also check that the regulator/rectifier is charging the battery at the correct rate and not overcharging it.
