 |
|
Hi,
I changed the "O" ring on my front sprocket a few weeks ago,and all was well, until a few day's ago.
It has started leaking againĀ :11doh:
When i fitted the new ring,i pushed it too far back and it was not flush with the outer casing the way it should be,but to correct it at the time would have meant destroying the "O" ring to get it back out,so i just left it like that and it was fine.
Anyway,i have just took it back out now to get it ready for the new O ring coming tomorrow, and i thought id try fitting it back in,but this time flush with the casing the way it should be.
Did that and started the engine, and it's leaking quite bad.
I did'nt think the oil behind this o ring would be under so much pressure?
I can actually see the oil forcing it's way past the o ring(at the point of the o ring where i stuck a screwdriver into it,to get it out,so it does have a split in it.)
Is this normal?>and if i just fit another new o ring, should it solve the problem~?

Thanks for the reply
I have started the bike and put it into gear, and the shaft looks straight. That was including taking into 6th gear(spinning quite fast),so im fairly sure the shaft is straight,or if it is off,it is only very slightly, and barely visable.
As for the mileage, the bike has only done 23k kms,so i think it's unlikely.
However, the drive chain was a little too tight .
Thanks for the reply.

Can you detect any play in the shaft when you try and shake it by hand?
Or are there any clicking noises when you rotate the shaft forwards and backwards?
If this is ok it may just need another new seal. |
Hi,thanks
There is movement in and out maybe 3mm ish,but not side to side.
And if i turn it while pushing it inwards,it make a clicking noise (2 clicks per full revolution),but if i pull it out as much as possible and turn it,there is no noise at all.
I know it is an oil seal, but i thought the o ring was mainly there just to stop like an oil vapour, but it looks like it fills with oil quite a bit behind there?
Thanks for your time,appreciate it

Just thought id update this thread incase anyone else has this problem with this bike.(not that anyone other than me owns a klr650 )
In the pic below you can see the splined shaft where the front sprocket fit's on.
The outer ring or collar on this shaft pulls off,and below it is a small o ring(oil seal).

I replaced this smaller o ring, aswell as the collar, and the outer o ring and the leak is now fixed
Had a great day today, back on the road on my klr .
Been using my 100cc scooter while the klr was broke. tis a great feeling being back on a real bike
