I've been sleeping a bit odd the past few days, sort of waking up with a start several times in the night, with heart racing that takes a fair while to settle back - then after dropping back to sleep, x-time later doing it again - can't really remember what I was dreaming at the time (could straight after, but not now), but not nightmares as such, just situations of heightened awareness, perhaps caused by anger or frustration in the dream?? IIRC.

So then sleep experts, what does it all mean?? Thinking

I have had this cycle a few times now i.e. get these sort of periods, then go back to normal undisturbed sleep (bar night-time loo trips Embarassed).

Could it be a medical issue? perhaps early warnings of cardiovascular problems?... or a psychological issue? - gone MORE nuts!?! Laughing

Or does it mean nothing at all and I just need a bit of slapping about?!!? Very Happy

You have seen your own death in a dream and it is coming soon, so don't worry everything will sort itself out.

Sleep apnea.......maybe?

Either that or it's the first signs of your sexual preferences changing from that of the human species, to something more frowned upon such as donkeys and geese.

Probably the latter....

I think there's more to it than you make out

Have you ever poo'd yourself in bed? I think the fear of a repeat incident is disturbing your sleep patterns (hence the loo breaks)

I prescribe a nappy and an aversion to watching scat films for a while Thumbs Up

On a separate note you could have night terrors. You under any stress?

I don't have a problem getting to sleep, just staying asleep ... I am concerned this waking up with a racing heart, where I can actually feel my chest pounding an the pulse in other parts of the body is actually a sign of something medical that I need to take heed of? Confused

If it is just mental issues, then it all makes sense!! Laughing

I am also intrigued if this sort of behaviour 'means' something to a dream psychologist type person if it is just mental ... Thinking

Is there anyone out there that has anything useful to add? Wink

I would of said nightmares, but as you reckon you vaguely recall them not being, it could be lucid dreaming...

If you're not used to it, when you start doing it and realise you get excited and wake yourself up apparently Neutral

See a doctor.

Either it'll put your mind at rest, or if something does need attention then you can address it. Karma

Cheers guys - some useful stuff coming now Thumbs Up

Been doing a bit of google-fu ... it might even be early signs of diabetes ... and all sorts of other horrible stuff!! Shocked It does prove not to look at a medical books/e-books or you become a hypochondriac!! Laughing

Or it could be simple anxiety/frustration about summin ... perhaps it is lack of love from BCF?? Neutral

Bearing in mind its as if I was in a real heightened state of alert ... just a though - is it possible to have an over active adrenal gland or summin that has to occasionally purge itself? Thinking

Bah, I went to dodgy industrial comprehensive. Simple things are not my forte.

I have to 'sing' the alphabet song to remember it, and count along it. And I do all multiplication by addition. Fun times.

Yep, had it done a few times over the past few years for one reason or another(accidents and surgery) it was always slightly high, but it was put down to possible 'white coat syndrome' as it wasn't consistent with multiple readings (some lower, some higher). But its gonna be on the upper end of normal I suspect if not slightly in the red (well amber).

Reading some of the google-fu; waking up with heart racing can actually a be a sign of LOW blood pressure ... i.e. the heart pumps mega hard to get some pressure up ... so that is unlikely to be me ... Thinking

Yes, it's called Cushing's syndrome (or Cushing Disease if you have a tumour in your pituitary gland if you want to get technical). If you had that, you'd be noticing a lot of other symptoms way before the problem you're currently experiencing. I'd say the same for diabetes as well, you'd notice increased thirst and increased urination prior to waking up with a start nightly.

An alternative could be a pheochromocytoma, but again there would be more notable symptoms than that which you describe.

May I point out at this moment in time that I am not a doctor, but could be talked into doing back alley abortions and kidney transplants if the price is right.
