Has anyone used super unleaded or optimax in their bikes?

Any problems with using it?

Yup, tend to use it as much as I can, i've found that what ever vehicle i'm filling up with optimax or super unleaded, runs a lot better and smoother!

If you do a serch, there was a big discussion a while ago.

I think the conclusion was:
High octane Thumbs Up for tuned bikes, but won't do 'owt on others.

I use it because loads of people say it has good engine cleaning properties. good enough for me, as my bikes done a a few thou miles. id rather put good stuff in my bike, than crap cheap fuel.

wont give you any more power really. my bike runs a bit smoother with it, but then again whenever i fill up from a low tank any fuel makes it run smoother.

you wont have any problems, give it a go see what you think. As i say for me, clean = good.

Optimax makes my seat comfier Laughing Razz .

Without changing the ignition timing or something like that, it is completely useless. Just a Placebo....but people still spend the extra money on it because of this.

I have been using Optimax on the bike for a few weeks now, it possibly makes the bike feel like it runs a bit smoother. That could also have something to do with the weather too though.

Over the last couple of hot days it's felt a bit rougher which could be down to the warmer air. It's been sort of cooler and damper when I actually thought "hmm, might be running a bit better". So what I suppose what I'm saying is, possibly but not a big difference.

Can be useful though, get's you ready for the fuel price rises on normal unleaded! Wink

I always use optimax in the bike, did on the Bandit too...makes a big difference BUT you need to run a couple of tanks through before noticing...made a lot of difference to the Bandit, just things like up hill acceleration much improved, better MPG,better throttle response....I also used to run Nitrox booster in the Bandit, which improved the throttle respose greatly but I only used it 2 out of every 4 fill ups as more often than that it clogged the plugs...

Japan use 100 octane juice and so engines are tuned to that, may be crud but I think if I can get my juice as near that as poss then the engine is working as near to how it was designed as poss...
Very Happy

unless you advance the ignition then you can't burn all the fuel

higher octane burns slower so you will be punting out some unburnt charge - I'm not sure about this but I don't think the small percentage difference in octane rating will matter much in this respect

maybe the detergents in it are useful, maybe not

I run it all the time but my bike has a PC3r and the ignition is advanced to varying degress over the throttle and rev range

I also used a chug of Nitrox at my last race but I'm not sure if it made any difference

I did my fastest ever run straight after I put it in but then I couldn't replicate it - maybe it was concidence

also, all the racers I know don't rate Nitrox

Nitrox, the stuff in the orange bottle isn't up to much but the one in the 300ml black bottle I found quite good...of course I may be deluding myself...Surprised

Hi

The octane rating improvement from Optimax is likely to have no effect on any engine designed to run on normal unleaded and not capable of using feedback from a knock sensor to alter ignition timing.

However Shell seem to make various claims about Optmimax which not only refers to its higher octane rating. Stuff such as energy content and flame speed, as well as detergent content, and these could well improve performance.

All the best

Keith

I've started to put Super Unleaded in my bike since there is only 1 or 2p per L difference in the price. Doesn’t really matter in a 10L fill!

On my RS, theres a sticker on the tank saying only to run it on super octane (98) fuel Confused
i just run it on unleaded 95.
do ya'll think i should do what the sticker commands and run it on higher quality and more expensive super unleaded 98 and the optimax?

Never tried it in the RS, but then I tend to use super unleaded or lrp (mine is an early one that should run on 97 RON fuel).

All the best

I'm using it in my RS, can't say I've noticed a difference in performance. Its starting easier than it used to, which may or may not have anything to do with the fancy petrol.
