If you do a serch, there was a big discussion a while ago.
I think the conclusion was:
High octane for tuned bikes, but won't do 'owt on others. |

Optimax makes my seat comfier .
Without changing the ignition timing or something like that, it is completely useless. Just a Placebo....but people still spend the extra money on it because of this. ____________________ is that it |

I have been using Optimax on the bike for a few weeks now, it possibly makes the bike feel like it runs a bit smoother. That could also have something to do with the weather too though.
Over the last couple of hot days it's felt a bit rougher which could be down to the warmer air. It's been sort of cooler and damper when I actually thought "hmm, might be running a bit better". So what I suppose what I'm saying is, possibly but not a big difference.
Can be useful though, get's you ready for the fuel price rises on normal unleaded! |

I always use optimax in the bike, did on the Bandit too...makes a big difference BUT you need to run a couple of tanks through before noticing...made a lot of difference to the Bandit, just things like up hill acceleration much improved, better MPG,better throttle response....I also used to run Nitrox booster in the Bandit, which improved the throttle respose greatly but I only used it 2 out of every 4 fill ups as more often than that it clogged the plugs...
Japan use 100 octane juice and so engines are tuned to that, may be crud but I think if I can get my juice as near that as poss then the engine is working as near to how it was designed as poss...

Nitrox, the stuff in the orange bottle isn't up to much but the one in the 300ml black bottle I found quite good...of course I may be deluding myself... ____________________ Mike |

Hi
The octane rating improvement from Optimax is likely to have no effect on any engine designed to run on normal unleaded and not capable of using feedback from a knock sensor to alter ignition timing.
However Shell seem to make various claims about Optmimax which not only refers to its higher octane rating. Stuff such as energy content and flame speed, as well as detergent content, and these could well improve performance.
All the best
