Hi all,
im swapping engines on my mtx.
the transplant engine looks all ok & i've sorted the top end & the gears look ok. (its changing gear anyway, lol)
but stupidly i never thought to check the kickstart & tbh, i wouldnt have known what to look for anyway!
so i have stuck the engine back in the bike & bolted on the kick start lever.
but when i go to kick it : NOTHING!!
it wont even move, not budging a bit.
seems to be stuck solid.
any ideas?
does this mean the crankcases need to be split?
i presume i'll have to take the engine back out the bike, right?
just not sure what im supposed to be looking for & where to start!
anyone offer any ideas? (apart from chucking it in a skip, which i think i may have to do anyway, lol)
cheers,
GAZ

Hi,
when i had the engine in the shed, i could turn the flywheel by hand.
& the top end moved up & down as it should.
thats as much as i checked. (as well as checking the clutch arm & whether it changed gear)
cheers,
GAZ

I've only got experience with Yamaha kickstarters so it could be different with your Honda, but the mechanism was always just behind the right clutch cover and so you shouldn't have to split the crank cases.

had summat similar on a ns125. The mechanism was behind the R cover, and we put the one way cam on wrong. it was set at rest against the stop that prevents overkick. turned it round 3/4, rebuilt and it was fine!!
