My insurance renewal is now due and I have been quoted a rediculous price by my current insurer, so will employ dodgy womble insurance inc. to find me a better quote.

What I want to know is do I have a years no claims bonus. It sounds simple, but I'm not sure.

I had my 125 insured for 8 odd months, then changed the bike on the policy to my bros for the remaining 4 months. As I have not made a claim in the last year I would think that I would have 1 years no claims bonus, but Goose is intent on dashing all my hopes and dreams by telling me that I don't because I changed the bike.

Could someone in the know clarify the situation, do I have 1 years NCB or not?

I would say yes

you have not claimed = no claims = bonus

regardles sof changing the bike, if you kept a policy live then you qualify

Yes I believe so as it is the fact that you've held insurance for a year not what bike it is on that is key.So as long as you haven't claimed and when you changed bike it was still on the same policy then 1 years NCB should be yours!

As long as you only changed the details on your policy ie. the bike and did not cancel your policy you have 1 years no claim. Smile

I'm kind of in the same situation, I changed my bike near the end of policy but have been reassured I have one years no claims bonus.

Thing is, do you get some sort of paperwork to confirm it?

I haven't got anything that says "Look at me, I have 1 years no claims! Angelic Dance! " So how do you prove it if required etc??

When you change insurers they are required to send proof of NCB for another insurer if required. Just ask for it to be sent out if you swap.

Or wait for the renewal notice to come in and it will show the 1 years no claim..Use that as proof.

Sometimes when you changes insurance companies the old one is not in too much of a hurry to give you proof of your entitlement.

I had no choice but to renew with the same company so I guess that I don't need to worry about the NCB just now then

Cheers Thumbs Up

I have my renewal letter here and there is no mention of having any no claims - it just has a price and a "call us now to take this out".

I'm with Bike Team at the moment - they have quoted me £710 for my renewal, which is laughable.

I've just got a quote from bennets and it's £560, but I've set Danny on the case now anyway to get it even lower.

Try CIA Insurance or H&R ( www.ciainsurance.co.uk and www.insurance2000.co.uk )

I get some of my cheapest quotes from those two.

The first insured me when I was 17 on an ER-5 for £1100 (and Im still with them at the moment) but It looks like I'll be moving to H&R since there quoting me cheaper on my next bike (which hopefully will be a GSX600F or a ZZR600)

I'd recommend Carole Nash as they were £60 cheaper than the lowest figure I was being quoted.

You should definately have 1 years no claims, but if you are changing insurers it can be tricky to get something in writing stating this. I had this problem a few years ago with my car.

Also, say if you didn't have a bike (and therefore an insurance policy) for a maximum of 2 years but had previously earned a number of no claims, when you set up a new policy they should take your past no claims bonus into account as long as you can prove that you had them.

Well that's the case with cars, I'm assuming it's the same with bikes Smile

Carole Nash were well expensive when I first started riding, they wanted something like £3200 to insure me TPFT on an ER-5, I was 17 at the time though and had my licence 3 days Laughing

I was surprised at their quote too Craig, I have no idea why they were so cheap compared to others.

Hi

You should have no claims, and normally they will put your no claims entitlement on your renewal notice. If not then chase them. I had problems years ago with Endsliegh ( Thumbs Down ) when I had a bike nicked but did not claim and they tried to take away my no claims. After much chasing they finally supplied the proof of no claims about 3 months late by which time it was no use to me really.

How long no claims lasts for seems to be fairly variable.

All the best

Keith
