I got a spare key cut. There is nothing fancy about the key at all, just a plain metal Kawasaki key, not even a large key ... I expected it to be ~£2.50, perhaps £3 ... it was £6.99!! Shocked

Did I just find the worlds most expensive key place or is this pretty standard???

It crossed my mind that I could prolly get a 2nd hand ignition barrel for that!! (If I ever did lose my key). Rolling Eyes

That's the going rate at Timpson's, certainly. I got a few spares cut, and it came to a score.

I had to look up what "a score" was (£20) Embarassed ... this wasn't even a main chain keycutter/cobbler either, it was just just some dude in a little privately owned shop ... perhaps that was his Ferrari parked out the back!! Laughing

Hi

Doesn't seem that bad. 2nd hand ignition switch will be a hell of a lot more than that (£50 seems to be a pretty low price for a lock set on Ebay).

All the best

Keith

I tend to throw watches away when the battery goes flat partly for for that reason ... well that and I get bored easily so it's a perfect excuse to get a new watch!! Thumbs Up

Like with most eBay stuff, depends on bike/demand ...

Or a honda with HISS

I was expecting a lot more than £6.99, its just a small business that needs to make money, its not cheap running a small shop. Or maybe i'm not feeling this recession so much lol

I was expecting over a tenner when I got a house key cut at Timpsons. Was taken aback when the guy said £7 or two for a tenner. (was going to get the 2 for a tenner 'cos I'm a sucker for a bargain Laughing )

Blue, you are a tight fisted so and so.

Thing is guys, I'd EXPECT to pay through the nose for a posh 'chipped' key, especially if it had radio door unlock etc.

However, mine is just a bit of metal ... you know, he got a blank bit of metal that was kinda key-shaped (bet he buys them in bulk for <£1ea) He put it on his - lets face it - very basic copy machine and ran it over it both sides ... all done in ~30 seconds ...

Just seems extortionate ...

Look ... sure he has machine costs, but I doubt wear and tear is that much ...

To my mind at £7/key its gotta be £5 'profit' at least, (probably much nearer £6!, but we will include things like overheads) per key ... 30s a key ... including taking my money, not more than 1 min work ...

So at full tilt, that is 60 keys an hour ...

That is a potential of £300/hr profit!! Shocked

She should have stuck her hand in and got it back.

Potential, but how many keys does he actually cut an hour? It wouldn't surprise me if it never left single figures.
