 |
|
I got a spare key cut. There is nothing fancy about the key at all, just a plain metal Kawasaki key, not even a large key ... I expected it to be ~£2.50, perhaps £3 ... it was £6.99!!
Did I just find the worlds most expensive key place or is this pretty standard???
It crossed my mind that I could prolly get a 2nd hand ignition barrel for that!! (If I ever did lose my key). ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

I was expecting over a tenner when I got a house key cut at Timpsons. Was taken aback when the guy said £7 or two for a tenner. (was going to get the 2 for a tenner 'cos I'm a sucker for a bargain )

1998, Renault Megane Coupe, dropped key whilst out fishing. Spare had long gone.
£250 and a ten day wait.
So then had to get car recovered from canal bank, another £100

Thing is guys, I'd EXPECT to pay through the nose for a posh 'chipped' key, especially if it had radio door unlock etc.
However, mine is just a bit of metal ... you know, he got a blank bit of metal that was kinda key-shaped (bet he buys them in bulk for <£1ea) He put it on his - lets face it - very basic copy machine and ran it over it both sides ... all done in ~30 seconds ...
Just seems extortionate ...
Look ... sure he has machine costs, but I doubt wear and tear is that much ...
To my mind at £7/key its gotta be £5 'profit' at least, (probably much nearer £6!, but we will include things like overheads) per key ... 30s a key ... including taking my money, not more than 1 min work ...
So at full tilt, that is 60 keys an hour ...
That is a potential of £300/hr profit!! ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |
