I normaly hate this sort of program but he has such a good reporting style. He seems to be able to stay mostly subjective whatever the topic and when he does have different views he tells the people concerend not just a few words to the camera. I think the best one he's made so far was the behing bars one.

He's an awesome guy - these most recent programmes of his on law and order in the US are brilliant.

His funniest programme was when he went to see the white supremacists. Even the Jew-hating bigots couldn't help but like him.

I fucking love Theroux.

Used to love his piss-take documentaries, but he seems equally adept at tackling serious issues with the same interviewing style.

His questioning is just so simple as to be almost naive. That instantly wins the interviewees trust then he just lets them do all the talking. You learn so much more about the situation that way, then make your own mind up. It's genius.

Completely the opposite documentary style to twats like Michael Moore who just ram their opinion down your throat.

I usually watch his shows, as his interviewing technique is interesting, why he doesn't get a punch on the nose is due to his open honest style.

Really?

<dons nhs-like spectacles and assumes an unassuming demeanor> Smile

Finally got round to watching last night, one thing that struck me was the deep, deep sadness of all the addicts. Almost all he talked to were so close to breaking down when they were suddenly forced to briefly look at their positions in life. Being a cynical bugger, I thought at first it was just their natural tendency to try and generate sympathy, but the more I watched the more I felt that their despair was completely genuine. And you could see it just bubbling under the surface, so much pain. Sad

My only little gripe about it was that I think he should have shown more of the misery, it felt a little too 'upbeat' at times, but otherwise it was an excellent, and worrying, programme.

Especially at the party when he talked to the home owner at the end. (can't remember his name, Andrew?)

The episode that's really lodged in my mind is the 'Law and Disorder in South Africa' documentary.

Louis met a young black gangster called Meleven on a corner of a Johannesberg street.
Now this guy had killed 3 cops to get their guns to commit more crime and described in growling broken English how he went about obtaining cash.

"I take yu baby, I take yu baby and put it in oveeeen, in microwave oveeen. You give me money. Now"

Made my blood run cold.

Louis has got balls...

and an endearing geeky aura.

It really reminded me of Philip K Dick's A Scanner Darkly. PKD was a speed addict at various points I believe and got the 'feel' of it over very well.

Though, also interesting to see that people could still live not too un-normal lives while addicted.
Of course, it should also be remembered that some people manage to get addicted to other non-physically addictive things and mess their lives up just as much.

Yep, and want them to show the next episodes or I will be forced to find them elsewhere.

All the best
